DM forgot my birthday

Sad

Just that really. It was my birthday yesterday, and my mum forgot all about it. Didn't call me, didn't send a card. We haven't had an argument or anything, and she's not got memory issues. I'm just really hurt and upset by it. I know I should be more of a grown-up about it, but for god's sake she was there at the time, it's not like squeezing a human being out of your vagina is something that's going to slip your mind!

Oh dear that's really tough.
No advice but best wishes andFlowers.
I am no stranger to shit birthdays for one reason or another so you have my sympathy.

pinkcarpet · 08/10/2018 16:01

It was my birthday yesterday too and my DH forgot. Despite us speaking about it a few days ago

mostdays · 08/10/2018 16:03

Oh Fith... I'm not even into (my own) birthdays but I'd be really upset too if my DM forgot. Parents are the ones you expect to remember even if no one else does.

Happy Birthday for yesterday Flowers Wine Cake

Marylou2 · 08/10/2018 16:03

Happy Birthday for yesterday OP. Yes your mother should have remembered. What is your relationship like in general? Is she particularly busy or stressed at the moment?

Tumilnaughts · 08/10/2018 16:04

Sorry to hear that. My mum consistently forgets how old I am and the exact date of my birth. But my mum hasn't got memory problems - she's just selfish.

CanIGetARefund · 08/10/2018 16:04

Thus has happened to me. Rubbish isn't it? Happy birthday anyway, from me Cake Gin

MissDai5y · 08/10/2018 16:17

Sorry that happened. She may still remember.

My mum wished me happy birthday a solid month late (she thought my birthday was that day, not a month earlier). I'm used to it being forgotten so it doesn't bother me but the first time does hurt.

showmeahero · 08/10/2018 16:20

That's sad, I'm really sorry Op Thanks

PaintingOwls · 08/10/2018 16:22

Is she lucid?

FrogsAreMean · 08/10/2018 16:31

My mum never remembers my birthday and if she does it is because someone has reminded her!

She sure as hell never forgets my brothers though!

(Sorry about your mum forgetting by the way)

JasperCopeland · 08/10/2018 16:35

How rotten. Has your mum done this before? Have you rung her and told her you had a lovely birthday weekend?

Knittedfairies · 08/10/2018 16:43

I once had a birthday no-one remembered; not my husband, nor friends, nor grown-up children, nor my mum and dad or brothers and sisters. Literally nobody recognised my birthday except me. I spent the whole day thinking something really exciting was going to happen.... but it didn’t. They’d all forgotten. I used to say that my birthday wasn’t important, but I changed my mind that year!

Chinks123 · 08/10/2018 16:49

My DF forgot my birthday too Sad I was upset. I was more upset when he forgot dd’s though..He’s very self centred and I don’t even bother to get annoyed anymore,

StandardPoodle · 08/10/2018 19:47

That is so upsetting. My DM forgot my birthday in her last couple of years but she was becoming forgetful - yet even knowing that, it hurt.
Happy birthday for yesterday!

DickensianHysteric · 08/10/2018 19:55

Happy Birthday for yesterday Fith! CakeYour poor mum will probably be mortified when she realises she forgot. If it was me, I would drop it into our next conversation at the earliest opportunity - "oh yes, I had a lovely weekend, I made a cake to celebrate MY BIRTHDAY."

DickensianHysteric · 08/10/2018 19:57

Also, is it possible she has sent a card or a gift that's been delayed in the post?
