Wasting Doctors time?

Due to a couple of unrelated medical conditions I’m under the care of a consultant at my local hospital. Knowing how stretched the NHS is, I try not to bother my GP with trivial things but do you think I’d be laughed out of the building if I make an appointment to talk about hiccups.
Over the last year or so the frequency and severity of hiccups has grown to the point now that I’m almost through up. If I drink cold drinks it seems to trigger them. But if I have a hot drink then it burns at the very top of my chest. I also can’t bare to have even a t-shirt resting against my neck as it feels like I’m choking.

Up until now I’ve thought it’s all in my imagination but I’m struggling to eat or drink and give up after just a small amount because it’s such hard work. I’ve lost about 5kg since it started to really bother me about 6 weeks ago.
I really don’t want to bother the GP unnecessarily but it’s becoming a nuisance now. Would you go?

I'm sat next to my DH who is a Dr who said go to your gp, but certain drugs might help like buscopan so maybe your pharmacist can advise in mean time? But he said dont wait a month for an appt. Go as emergency

Mid November is too long. Get seen sooner. Can you book a phone call to speak to your gp ? They will almost certainly see you much sooner.

Made the mistake of googling the symptoms of oesophageal cancer and am having a minor freak out.

I didn't want to say but that was what my DM was diagnosed with after having those symptoms. But it is rare and there are other conditions that cause the same - the point being, get it looked at sooner than later.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 09/10/2018 05:26

That's what I thought of when I read your symptoms. I knew someone who had it. Try not to worry but get seen soon. If it's something minor you'll be sorted. If it's more serious then the sooner the better.

Did you manage to get a closer appointment op?

Justonedayatatime11 · 09/10/2018 22:16

Endof dont let the receptionist put you off ???
My receptionists don't 'put patients off', they work bloody hard to get patients the appointments they need, as soon as they can. We don't hoard appointments, or keep them back. We struggle daily to fit patients into very limited appointment times.
OP, I understand your concerns, but please don't think the receptionists are making you wait through choice!

I have a doctors appointment this afternoon. Feeling very worried and stressed. On one hand I hope to have my wrist slapped for taking up an appointment unnecessarily but on the other I know that something just isn't right.
Struggling to stay focused at work today and just took a call from someone I know. She immediately asked if I had a cold because of my voice.
Shit, shit, shit...the day is taking forever to pass.
When I woke up this morning there was a brief moment where I was comfortable and sleepy and then suddenly the worry caught up with me and that was me wide awake from silly o'clock.

Are you the OP?

Fingers crossed for you, you're absolutely doing the right thing getting it checked out. The chances of it being something significant are probably absolutely tiny, and hopefully by this evening you'll have a weight off your shoulders.

LadyMaryC · 10/10/2018 13:39

Sorry just realised due to my name change I'm not showing up as the original poster. Will start a new thread after I've seen the doc. Thank you all for encouraging me to get it checked out.

Aaaahfuck · 10/10/2018 21:38

Hope you get some answers op. I know it's easy to say but try not to panic. Please do keep us updated I'll be thinking of you.
