help me choose an engagement ring

I have a 'holding' one for now, but I want to get my ideas straight as to what I really want. I love multicoloured stones together, but also I am in love with Kirsty Allsops large cocktail rings.

Where do I start? We are planning a trip to a few antique shops as I love older styles too.
I'm stuck!
I guess the answer is just to go and try a load on?

I think I'll go for an amethyst as that's my birthstone or maybe a rose quartz, but I do love other gemstones too!

If you're anywhere near Brighton you could go ring shopping in the Laines. We had a wonderful day doing just that, and I got a wonderful vintage square cut emerald flanked by diamonds. I've been married over 20 years and still get compliments on it. Its nice to have something that's a bit different to the ubiquitous diamond solitaire I reckon.
