My son has just turned 10 months. Formula fed. He eats three meals a day - with more or less success depending on teething etc.

He had previously been drinking 5 bottles a day but has cut out 1 bottle.

I know that soon he needs to start eating more food, so that this is his main source of nutrition, alongside cows milk / water. Is it just as simple as now slowly starting to decrease the amount of formula in each bottle? Ie 7oz instead of 8 at each feed. And then he'll eat more?? It feels like it should be that simple... but I have found weaning oddly confusing!

Thank you x

Theirs no right or wrong. I just started to replace whole bottles with water in the day time, not all at once but eventually, as milk is a source of food so I found they ate less the more milk they had. Both DC have a bottle morning and night ( as we do love cows milk) but they eat all of their food and snacks now Iv cut them out. My mum had same problem with me as a child I wouldn't eat I only drank milk so the doc said stop the milk! Xx

Hi,

I stopped giving my ds bottles unless he was sleeping so he'd have 1 and night and 1 at each nap.
Once he dropped to 1 nap I gave him a cup of milk upon waking.
This meant he was hungrier automatically (lucky for me it worked- nothing else I've tried to do deliberately has! 😂)

When are his bottles? I would start replacing them with snacks. At 12 months I would 3 meals a day, a mid morning snack, a mid afternoon snack and supper.

I would go for a straight swap at snack times to cows milk in a cup with a snack as well.

He has roughly:
Bottle 6.30
Breakfast 8.00
Nap
Bottle 11.00
Lunch 12.30
Nap
Bottle 16.00
Dinner 17.30
Bottle and bed 18.45/19.00

It seems like they move on to eating constantly!! I suppose the snacks / supper and cows milk effectively replace the formula?
