Duvet cover washing, a “how often?” Record?

That’s it. I declare myself champion of finding the grimmest duvet cover situation ever.

We have a friend lodging with us for a few weeks. Today is Sunday and is the duvet sets day. So we ask him to bring his (borrowed from us set) down and it duly gets washed and dried and handed back this evening.
He came downstairs triumphantly 30 minutes later exclaiming how he’d managed to put his duvet cover on by himself.

Queue confused looks.

This man is 32 and single for around 7 years, and been living in house shares.

We dared to ask “what do you mean? You’ve managed? Surely you do this all the time and have done since you were a kid?”

And he kind of mumbles and says “errr, I don’t usually change the duvet covers”. He got his mum to help him around 4 years ago.....AND HAD NEVER WASHED OR EVEN CHANGED THE COVERS IN ALL THAT TIME!

😱

Oh my god! That is totally filthy and disgusting!

🤢

I’m guessing he hasn’t had sex for a long time. That is so grim.

This man is ... single

What an amazing coincidence this is!

I am very far from being one of the MN obsessive over-washers, but even I think this is a bit .

redsummershoes · 07/10/2018 22:09

omg
I thought I was bad with changing every other week. Blush
can't be arsed doing it more often unless really needed.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/10/2018 22:09

That's really quite grim.

Reaa · 07/10/2018 22:12

He could of just bought a new one and chucked the old one if he could not be arsed to wash it.

4 years really is grim

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/10/2018 22:13

Preseumably he washes the bed sheets though. I have a sheet on top of me before the duvet. I do wash the cover though.

SnipSnipMisterBurgess · 07/10/2018 22:14

A person known to me moved into a flat where duvets in their covers had been left behind. He just used them as they were, then a few months later he got a rash, but he was pretty sure it was unrelated because the previous tenants had been nurses Shock

This was a long time ago (1990s) but it made a lasting impression on me.

hmmwhatatodo · 07/10/2018 23:50

I’m impressed that you have a set duvet washing day. Even mor impressed that it’s all washed and dried on the same day. If I’m honest I probably wash Duvet covers every 3 to 4 weeks and bedsheets and pillowcases every 2 weeks because I don’t have a tumble drier or outdoor hanging space so it all gets draped around and also because I don’t like changing bedding. But your friend wins. Having said that I think I used to keep the same bedding on all year round in my first year of university.

Eatmycheese · 07/10/2018 23:56

Surprised it hadn’t walked off the bed and thrown itself into the washing machine.
Totally grim.

Sat here in my changed every week bed and feel contaminated!

Ellie56 · 07/10/2018 23:56

I thought my son was bad enough, only changing covers every 4-6 weeks, but that is truly minging. Yuck!!

MN we need a vomit smiley!

tectonicplates · 08/10/2018 01:00

Sorry OP but it's not a record! Watch this! (Skip to 6:00 for the bedding). m.youtube.com/watch?v=elEp1L4J1QU
