Does anywhere make chocolate like Caramac, but nice?

Eating some lovely Love Cocoa salted caramel milk chocolate and one bite was slightly reminiscent of Caramac, and I thought of how much I used to love it. It’s gross now - the texture’s all weird and it just doesn’t taste the same. Does any nice chocolate place make a Caramac-style bar? As in the actual light brown chocolate stuff, not normal chocolate with bits in.

Gold bar biscuit?

WoollyMollyMonkey · 07/10/2018 20:23

Ooo yes, Gold bars are yummy!

TheFifthKey · 07/10/2018 20:28

They’re nice but the chocolate still has the cheap, grainy taste to me. I want a posh, smooth, creamy bar (and will pay accordingly!)

Was Caramac actually chocolate? I was never quite sure.

PetraDelphiki · 07/10/2018 20:31

Valrhona do a caramelised white choc that is exactly like caramac...

FrederickCreeding · 07/10/2018 20:31

No caramac is not actually chocolate at all! I know this as I cheated once when I'd "given up" chocolate by eating caramac! From memory, it contains no cocoa at all!

flopsyrabbit1 · 07/10/2018 20:32

love caramac watching with interest

PJ04JCW · 07/10/2018 20:32

Hotel chocolate? I’m not keen on it but never liked caramac either

CreativeMumma · 07/10/2018 20:36

Watching with lots of interest.
Lucoca blond chocolate is the closest I've found.

TheFifthKey · 07/10/2018 20:39

The Valrhona one sounds promising!

This! www.chocolate.co.uk/products/blonde-chocolate-sea-salt

I got a bar for DP’s birthday and we both thought it was like a posh caramac! Subtle caramel notes so not full on caramac flavour, but oh so good.

AwkwardSquad · 07/10/2018 20:43

Ooh that Valrhona sounds really good too. I’ll look out for it.

Hi , I stumbled on this query whilst looking for some other info on chocolate and in order to respond I have just joined Mumsnet ! I don’t have a sweet tooth but as a youngster loved Caramac ( I’m 58 ) . I tried Caramac some years back and it was revolting with a waxy , fatty cheap texture and no depth of taste . Yesterday however , I was at my daughters and ate some chocolate she asked me to try and it was delicious , reminded me of Caramac .... and I have to tell you it is from ALDI ! It’s made by Mosser Roth and is Caramel Dore . Looks expensive artisan looking packaging in brown card . I was dying to pass this on to anyone searching for the old Caramac taste . I do hope you like it ! ( oh , and I think it was just over a quid )

helibirdcomp · 21/01/2023 14:22

Thank you, going looking in Aldi next time I am there. Just bought a Nestle Caramac and was disgusted with the taste. So much so I posted on a reviews site and contacted Nestle with a link to the reviews that everyone was putting on there. It seems most people feel the same - Caramac is no longer any good

Angel4321 · 15/11/2023 04:58

Caburys just started doing a bar called Caramilk and m & s do Swiss golden blonde not tried them but going to see if there like caramac now nestle discontinued

ThePlantKiller · 15/11/2023 09:46

Caramilk is nowhere as nice as Caramac unfortunately, it's a poor imitation.

Bigcoatlady · 15/11/2023 09:54

The m and s golden blonde range is v good. The golden blond cooking chocolate is also v cheap and just as good as the fancy eating chocolate imo.

RecoveringBorderlineIsBack · 15/11/2023 13:01

Aldi does some lovely quality blonde chocolate products as does M and S. Aldi does a white chocolate mountain bar like M and S version of Toblerone but it tastes very like Caramac.

Nows · 15/11/2023 13:08

For any caramac lovers (if there are any other than me!), stock up - nestle are axing it.

Sugarfish · 15/11/2023 13:12

Caramac is basically blonde chocolate isn’t it? Find it weird they’re axing it now it’s popular. Holds a sentimental feeling for me as it was my mums favourite when I was little. Every Friday afternoon we’d go to the park and on the way back she’d get herself a caramac, in its foil and paper wrapper. And me a mint aero.

Aldi do a nice bar of blonde chocolate that tastes a lot like it.
