Calpol - 8 week old

voxnihili · 07/10/2018 17:44

DD has her 8 week injections this week. She will be exactly 8 weeks, 5 days short of 2 months. Calpol says it can be used from 2 months. Would you give it if needed afterwards? She is over the minimum weight, and if she had been born in shorter months (i.e. February) she would be pretty much 2 months. I don’t want to give it to her though if there could be serious consequences if she is just under the 2 month minimum age.

Thanks

I'm a peadiatric nurse. It's fine.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/10/2018 17:46

We give it to much younger babies.

She'll be fine.

I remember DS2 being 7 weeks when DS1 broke out with Chicken Pox. Fortunately he held out until 9 weeks, but I remember thinking that he was plenty big enough (bigger than average at birth and piled it on after!) SIL (neonatal nurse) said it would be fine.

Yes.
It states not to use younger because it can mask more serious illness in small babies.
I didnt realise this until i had dd3 and had been a parent 13 years. Dd3 was given it at 3 days in hospital.

here is the nhs page about vaccination. If you scroll down, you'll find a link to the leaflet which tells you to give
three doses of baby paracetamol after the eight week vaccination. In fact, my dgs doctor advised giving first dose an hour before the injection and then two further doses.

Thanks for the responses, especially the link to the websites.

You’re recommended to give it after the 8 week jabs aren’t you?

My doctor prescribed calpol after those injections as I said I didn’t have any.
