Large scale Facebook hack, what’s going on?

I’ve had three friend requests this weekend from people I’m already friends with. I accepted the first one. Then these friends posted messages saying they’d been hacked and not to accept any friend requests.

Thought it was a bit odd this had happened three times and have googled and apparantly there was a massive fb hack a couple of weeks ago. First I’d heard of it but these hackers have got access to pretty much everything.

I’m annoyed fb don’t seem to be telling people to change passwords, etc.

But why do the hackers do this? Is it to try and get passwords and hoping people have the same passwords for non Facebook stuff? Why do they friend request everyone again? The first friend it looked like they set up a second account with her name, her profile pic and then started friend requesting all her original friends. Have I exposed myself to something because I accepted the request? The account had been deleted by the time I realised it was fake.

Apparently all affected users were logged out by Facebook and asked to log back in.

Well I think more people have been affected than got logged out then. I’m changing my password now just in case.

Lots of people log into other platforms via FB.
