Epsom printer woes

Firstly, apologies. I know this should be in Tech stuff but I'm posting for traffic as DS needs to print homework out to be handed in tomorrow.

My printer has started to print out blank pages. It will copy colours on sheets but the black ink will not work at all. If I send something through the laptop it will print out blank pages.

This is not a wireless connection issue as I send stuff to print and it actually does "print" stuff off.

I have loaded in new ink cartridges, I have cleaned the nozzle and the printer heads. I have dabbed a damp piece of kitchen roll in the printer heads and there is definitely ink coming out of the cartridges.

So why won't it print???!!

Please help, otherwise I am going to have to buy another printer at 2pm today which I'd really rather not do Sad

Have you tried (gently) taking the cartridge out & replacing it again? Mine sometimes doesn't pop the plastic bit over the bottom properly enough so, even though you can see the ink is there, it doesn't manage to print that colour. (Hope that makes sense)

I have, sadly. I am desperately googling the problem. Thanks for replying though.

The printer will make colour photocopies so some ink is definitely getting through.

Try shaking the cartridge. My mum's was playing up this week and I took each cartridge out and shook it. It worked straight away. Printers are a pain in the butt.

Did you do a Nozzle Check after cleaning the nozzles? Did you shake the cartridge thoroughly before installing it? If not, take it out and shake it hard and thoroughly.

ChicagoLil · 07/10/2018 12:04

I've done all that. Am now on the Epsom site trying to uninstall/reinstall the printer.

I appreciate your responses, thank you for replying.

Make sure that every single bit of the tape that covers the ink holes are removed from the new cartridge. Run a nozzle check and clean printer heads. Then do the test print to see if that prints out black

If all else fails maybe you change the font colour on the document and print it out in dark blue?

I feel your pain, I too have an Epson printer and I hate it.
If all else fails, try uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it. That's what I've had to do before now, when putting in new cartridges.

thetemptationofchocolate · 07/10/2018 12:58

Sorry, just saw you are trying that. It did work, for us anyway :)

OK, I've discovered what the problem was. I ran an Epson printer software upgrade and it wasn't compatible with my ancient laptop so that's why it wouldn't print out. I eventually emailed stuff to myself, set up the printer in my tablet and bingo.

The print quality is a bit shit though as I'd run so many nozzle checks and alignment changes.
