Can anyone think of a board game that normally Fortnite mad kids might enjoy in an attempt to get them doing something else for a bit....?

Pokemon
Ticket to ride

dontknowwhattodo80 · 06/10/2018 12:48

My nearly 10 year old likes game of life

BananaBonanza · 06/10/2018 12:53

Colt express
Munchkin
Takenoko
Smallworld
Pokemon tcg
Settlers of catan

Personally unless yours are natural gamers I'd leave ticket to ride for a year or two

Ds1 likes Cluedo. We also have Game of Life which I think is fab (so does dd) but ds1 always loses interest halfway through.

Faithless12 · 06/10/2018 12:57

Depends what sort of games they like. Here’s some of our favourites
Splendour
Harry Potter card game
Mint works
Agricola
Pandemic

Faithless12 · 06/10/2018 12:58

Oh and ticket to ride.

EduCated · 06/10/2018 13:20

Exploding Kittens is fun! (Make sure it’s the one suitable for kids though!)

Itsatravesty · 06/10/2018 13:23

Well fornite monopoly is coming out next month! I got my 10 year beat the parents for his birthday and that's gone down well, can be quite funny, the fact it doesn't take ages is a bonus too.

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2018 13:24

Labyrinth

GnomeDePlume · 06/10/2018 13:25

Pit is good but noisy. A card game rather than a board game.

iwantavuvezela · 06/10/2018 13:31

Bounce off - for fun

Rumikub - really good and highly recommend.

Game of life - played but not incessantly

ILiveInSalemsLot · 06/10/2018 15:33

Thanks for the suggestions. We ve got cluedo and labyrinth so I’ll dig those out and have a browse at the others.
I’m not sure if fortnite monopoly sounds like a blessing or a curse Hmm

My 10 year old son loves Monopoly, he has a Simpsons version. He's also learning Chess.

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 06/10/2018 18:47

Me and DDs enjoy:

Sushi Go Party
Pass the Bomb
Camel Up
Elfenland ( a bit more involved)

frenchfancy · 06/10/2018 18:54

Small world
Camel up
Carcassonne

Anything but monopoly. What you need is a German style board game which means all the players play to the end then you add up to see who won rather than an Anglo-Saxon style where players are eliminated.

CAAKE · 06/10/2018 19:04

Blockus and monopoly

BananaBonanza · 07/10/2018 08:29

Yy monopoly being an awful game. It's basically won or lost in the first half hour then everyone else is waiting for their slow demise while the top player or top two demolish everyone else.

Totally agree on Carcassonne. Awesome game

AnnPerkins · 07/10/2018 08:35

Definitely Carcassonne and Labyrinth.

What’s the Harry Potter card game?

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 07/10/2018 09:19

Catan is a fab board game.

Our 2 favourite games are actually card games. Exploding Kittens (not horrible like it sounds at all) and Bears v Babies. They are great fun and suit all my DCs who range in age from 17 - 7.

We also really like Articulate.

vvviola · 07/10/2018 09:29

Ticket to Ride is a huge hit with our 11 year old (she asked for an expansion pack for her birthday when she discovered such things existed)

Castle Panic is good - a cooperative monster fighting game. There is only an ultimate winner if all the players beat the game.

There's a star wars game using the same mechanism as exploding kittens (guy in the game shop assured me that both it and exploding kittens are suitable for 10/11 year olds, there's nothing in content that might be a problem - they are sometimes rated 12+ for complexity, but our 7 year old plays without difficukty)

Momzilla82 · 07/10/2018 09:33

King of Tokyo.
Carcassone

inquiquotiokixul · 07/10/2018 09:35

2nd (or is it 3rd) recommendation for Colt Express.

MorningsEleven · 07/10/2018 10:04

Labyrinth
Sushi go
Indigo
Exploding Kittens

GreenTulips · 07/10/2018 10:05

Fortnite is now available as monopoly

Faithless12 · 07/10/2018 11:17

Sushi go party is another big hit here. If there are only two players Jaipur is great game. I agree with @frenchfancy but add you want a game that doesn’t rely on dice.
