Marks and Spencer Christmas Food 2018

I have just looked at the Christmas food catalogue from Marks and Spencer. It's awful! The selection has reduced and the one thing that I used to like, the box of party food is no longer available.
I think my days of ordering food from there to make life easier is now passed.

they are preparing people for next xmas, post Brexit, when a lucky few will be able to order a potato.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 06/10/2018 11:30

Why not just prep your own food? I love M&S Foodhall but don't understand buying pre-prepped veg because it's so easy to do at home?

EmeryisntthenewWenger · 06/10/2018 11:33

Because I can't be bothered to peel lots of potatoes, prep carrots etc. It's about convenience at Xmas, the rest of the time it's fine to prepare all of the veg etc but when the number of people you're cooking for goes up a lot I don't want to do it.

I will have to look elsewhere.

Have you got a Cook near you? We got sides and desserts from them last year and they were so much better than M&S. Think they do delivery too.

I agree Emery I picked up the book last night for a browse. So much available to order gone but so many "new" products. Hopefully they will have a good range on the shelves!

EmeryisntthenewWenger · 06/10/2018 12:06

I would have thought they would have looked to expand the range rather than reduce it.
I stopped buying my turkey there a few years ago but still got a few bits but not sure it's worth my while anymore.

I've given up buying most M&S food because it's all so peppery. Even the cottage pie has an aftertaste now. They've gone overboard with reducing fat and salt, so to get the food to taste of anything they have to add spices.

Sainsbury's and Waitrose are just as good for poultry and Iceland's frozen brined turkey was top of the taste poll in one of the newspapers last year.

Angrybird345 · 06/10/2018 13:24

Look online as I think they have more there! Love M&S food!

I know what you mean OP. I went into M&S yesterday to see if I could get some reduced bargains from the food hall. I was specifically looking for a cheap sandwich and some reduced purple sprouting brocolli. I knew I'd be confronted with the displays for their Xmas food but and thought I was ready for that. But they were everywhere and so distressingly triggering that I had to run screaming from the shop. I heard a yelp from someone who may have been hit when I flung my basket behind me. The incident has undoubtedly been caught on CCTV but they never follow these things up, do they? Like you, I want to avoid the upsetting reality of having to peel spuds and carrots this Xmas

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 06/10/2018 13:31

I was disappointed too. Yes, the turkey is there but all the extras have gone. I don’t want to buy the bumper selection vegetable pack but I do want to order sprouts and cabbage - can’t do that anymore, and the dessert range is poor.

When I first started doing this there was such a great choice. I wonder why they have scaled it back so much?

EmeryisntthenewWenger · 06/10/2018 13:34

I suspect it's down to cost savings. Another nail in the demise of M&S.
