How’s much do you pay for sky?

I am interested as thinking of changing from virgin. Price going up to £77 per month. We have broadband, telephone and tv package. No sports or similar and only 1 box. Not interested in sports, possibly interested in cinema but have a separate Netflix subscription so not really bothered.
How does sky compare? I’ve heard they’re doing lots of half price offers at the moment, but what happens after the 18 months?Does the price rocket? I assume I’d have to change email address as well as all connected to virgin. That would be a real pain to sort out.
What are your experiences of sky, what do you pay and what is that for?

Have a look on moneysavingexpert. There's sometimes offers.
Could you go with anyone else? Bt ended up cheapest for me and they rolled over the price I got for another year too so I get high speed broadband and line rental for £30 a month

TheVeryHungryDieter · 06/10/2018 09:54

How wedded are you to the phone and live tv? £77 a month sounds like a lot!

This isn't going to be a useful post for you if you are committed to going ahead with a package, but as food for thought:

We have NowTV and Netflix for 7.99 a month each (although we only usually have Netflix but we will sign up to nowtv for a few months at a time when there's a new release of a Sky-only series we want to see like GoT, otherwise DH will watch the occasional football match on pay per view), and fast fibre broadband for I think about £35 a month. We watch terrestrial tv live or on iplayer most of the time. We pay over £300 a year less than what you've been quoted for your package.

Do you need the package? Would you be able to ditch elements of it? Is this a good time to reconsider where you might be able to trim down the service as a whole?

0hCrepe · 06/10/2018 09:56

£36 for everything for 18m. Just ring and say you’re leaving, find the best deal by another provider and they’ll match it.

Sorry I thought you were already on sky. Worth a try with virgin but if not sky offers do last and if you try to move at the end they come down.

madasamarchhare · 06/10/2018 10:08

Interesting. We are already with virgin. But having a quick look on sky seems to state tv is £42 without any extras?! Broadband another £5 and that’s without a phone line.
Not a huge saving. I know people paying well over £100 a month for sky that’s why I’m wondering if it is actually cheaper.
Personally I’d quite happily live without a telly but the rest of the house wouldn’t agree with me!!

Our sky package is about £45 that's for TV, box sets, sports, phone and broadband.

Every year we ring up and give our 30 days notice. Sit and wait a couple of weeks for all the offers to come in. Sorted.

NoProbLlama78 · 06/10/2018 10:10

Have you looked at nowtv? I have that I think it's £8 per month and I pay £4 per month for movies but that's because I cancel it and they offer me a deal often.

0hCrepe · 06/10/2018 10:11

Yes I think it’s all about negotiation with sky. They’ll keep charging people who will pay but come down if you threaten to leave! But if you haven’t found a good offer you could ring and say you want to join them but want it as £x

DownWentTheFlag · 06/10/2018 10:13

£36 for TV (basic package) phone (any time calls) and broadband. We got a Sky Q box and an extra Sky Q mini box for a one off payment of £40.

Blackladybug · 06/10/2018 10:27

My sky is £42 a month, for tv and Wi-Fi. Don't need a phone package and I have the box sets package.

SillyMoomin · 06/10/2018 10:32

We have sky, basic entertainment package (no movies or sports), unlimited broadband and telephone for £33 a month

Once a year I simply ring them up and say they’re too expensive and I need to leave. They always either cut my bills in half or offer me something wonderful to stay.

Poisongirl81 · 06/10/2018 10:45

I have a link so if I refer a friend to sky we both get £100 voucher. let me know if you interested

stoplickingthetelly · 06/10/2018 11:47

Think ours is around £90 a month, but we have a big package. Sports, movies, multiroom, hd etc

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 06/10/2018 11:53

£110 skyQ, main box +3 auxiliary boxes. Full package, + ‘skyVIP’ . It’s a lot of money and glitchy as fuck but some of that is due to our broadband and the layout of our house.

Baby1onboard11 · 06/10/2018 11:59

£26 for line rental, sky tv basic package, and sky q broadband, also bought through topcashback and got about £80 back I think it was? Plus a prepaid £100 credit card. Was 18 month arrangement.

I’m with bt now as partner wanted a sports package they offer but I much prefer SKY. Also got quite a few free dvds from them

FunSponges · 06/10/2018 12:11

Sky will always come down if you threaten to leave. Virgin won't budge and are massively overpriced.

ForalltheSaints · 06/10/2018 12:12

Nil, it will not darken my doorstep. I can live without Game of Thrones and if I want to watch the odd football game that I am not there in person for, will go to the pub.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 06/10/2018 12:29

I will be trying that.
I done that with NowTV a few years ago and got 3 months for free , which was nice .

At the moment its way too high . I don't know why as it was an offer at the time but we get Phone, Internet and Sky TV minus any of the extra's as watch movies on Netflix or popcorn time etc .

Dandybelle · 06/10/2018 12:32

I pay £61 for phone, broadband, tv and sky cinema. I've been with them 3 years.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 06/10/2018 12:41

I've just changed from Virgin to Sky. Virgin really couldn't have cared less and just said OK when we phoned to cancel. Didn't offer any kid of deal to stay.
I'm now paying £20 less a month with Sky.

smurfy2015 · 08/10/2018 02:38

I use sky for phone and broadband as need the landline for various reasons. Snapshot of my bill.

I use Netflix and Now tv which works out at 7.99 a month each and like others every so often I go to leave Now TV so I can get a better offer

How’s much do you pay for sky?
Justanotheruser01 · 08/10/2018 07:02

53 all channels inc sports box sets and film
Plus Netflix and amazon t.v. with our prime subs

Justanotheruser01 · 08/10/2018 07:05

And we did it by speaking to cancellations not retention the best retention could offer was 73.

whynot93 · 08/10/2018 07:10

God I'm seriously paying too much! 133pcm for sky with sky q - which drives me insane as it has to be rebooted often!! I keep meaning to call them and get this cost down but it always puts me off as I hate the whole sales pitch malarkey!

EscapeToTheMoon · 08/10/2018 07:11

Our is £85.50 per month. Cinema, tv, sport, multiscreen
