Liverpool Museum tomorrow - help re best way into city centre

I have tickets to see the Terracotta Army figures tomorrow, coming from a way away and don’t know Liverpool well. There is a big street theatre event which looks like it’s going to close city centre streets. Is there anywhere like a suburban rail station I could park up at and do the last bit of the journey on public transport?

Which direction are you coming from? If south, park at Liverpool Parkway and take the train in

LadyKilbarron · 05/10/2018 17:44

Rail travel may be affected by RMT industrial action. The Liverpool Echo website has advice on how to get into Liverpool by public transport so I'd check on there.

ImSoExhausted · 05/10/2018 17:50

Erm, the giants are here this weekend, you've got no chance of getting anywhere near town via car. You're best bet is by train

ImSoExhausted · 05/10/2018 17:50

*your!

justchangingagain · 05/10/2018 17:50

I went yesterday, got the train to lime Street really easy to get to from there. Don't know Liverpool at all so no idea where would be good for you, hopefully someone will be able to suggest somewhere.

ImSoExhausted · 05/10/2018 17:51

And to answer your question, have a google of Liverpool South Parkway station, that has a great car park and the train goes into limestreet. Kirkby Station also has a car park and that line takes you into Liverpool Central. Hope that helps!

ExCharlieBucket · 05/10/2018 17:51

If coming from North, travel in from preston wigan to Lime St

LARLARLAND · 05/10/2018 17:52

Check the trains. They have been sailing past some stops today. Driving was awful too.

SuperMonster · 05/10/2018 18:05

Just get train to lime street and walk- the museum is just down the road but the big giants display is happening and most of the roads will be closed in front of the station (earlier on anyway)

mysteryfairy · 05/10/2018 18:14

I’m coming from Yorkshire on M62 with 3 other over 16s -DH and two DC. Train all the way is ridiculously expensive so I was hoping I could drive nearish and get local transport in - similar to if I was going to Manchester or Sheffield I’d park at a tram stop with lots of parking.

Will try the local stations suggested, thanks!

A word of warning - there is a street exhibition/performance in the city centre this weekend

Sliceofrice · 06/10/2018 07:37

Train strike and the Giants are making it awful to get into the city or near it by car! Aim for a local town, like Warrington where it will be about 2.20 for all day parking then a duo return for about 9 quid per couple.

Sliceofrice · 06/10/2018 07:37

On the train that it

ScouseQueen · 06/10/2018 07:43

Yes, try Liverpool South Parkway - car park may be full as it's going to be so busy but there are residential streets nearby to park in if that happens. Otherwise Warrington is probably your best bet as said. The giants are really good if you're down by the Museum of Liverpool anyway and can see both.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 06/10/2018 07:43

Park at South Parkway and then train to Moorfields. I think that's your best bet.

Fantastiqueangel · 06/10/2018 07:44

Runcorn station is fantastic for weekend parking. Trains should go to Lime Street near the museum. Check trains though

Fantastiqueangel · 06/10/2018 07:45

Definitely see the Giants if you can. They are brilliant.

Anasnake · 06/10/2018 07:45

It's the giants this weekend, city centre will be heaving.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 06/10/2018 08:35

I think a lot of stations are shut. I’d park on the street or in the retail park on edge lane and get the bus in, but not sure if parking in the retail park is strictly allowed! It’s never busy though, and the bus journey would be about 10 minutes.

LARLARLAND · 06/10/2018 10:31

Terracotta Warriors are at the World Museum not the Museum of Liverpool. It will be tricky to get into and around the Ciry today but not impossible and I would echo that while you are in Liverpool it would be a good idea to try to see the Giants.

mysteryfairy · 06/10/2018 22:47

Thanks to everyone for your help. We parked off Edge Lane and just went the last 3 miles in a cab which worked out fine. Thanks for the warning that I was picturing the wrong museum too Blush

I absolutely loved the exhibition - could so easily have been disappointed, but the warriors are amazing. My 16 year old DD was however disappointed they were not made of cheese Hmm She had pictured ricotta warriors when invited to come alongConfused

😂😂😂

Toddlerteaplease · 07/10/2018 18:02

I was a bit disappointed with the warriors, I thought there would be more than four. But I'm glad I've been. Saw the giants today but the crowds were so huge I barely saw any. Now hiding in Costa waiting for the traffic to clear!
