Potential menopause? I'm only 39 😖

I started my periods when I was really young, literally just before my 9th birthday.

I've been having erratic periods of late, as in lasting 2 weeks very light flow some days nothing at all or done in 3 days and ridiculously heavy to the point I have had to ring in sick as I have needed to be near a loo.

Other symptoms are the hot sweats, terrible mood swings and just generally irritable/angry. Some days I struggle to function.

Could it be the menopause or something else?

Any advice welcome Smile

The only way you'll know is if you get tested at the doc's. It could be something else but the only way to find out is to have your hormone levels tested.

I'm in the same position (although a few years older) and want to get tested too - not had time to get to the GP though!

Yeah, time to get a gp appointment is proving difficult, off today and no appointments left. Didn't want to use an emergency one when there will probably be someone will need it more.

I was peri menopausal at 39 i had a blood test, see if your surgery has a well woman clinic make an appointment there. I am tail end of my 40s on Hrt but still having periods.

MrsJayy · 05/10/2018 13:19

Moods are much more stable on HRT and i have a rare night sweat .

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 05/10/2018 13:40

Cheers MrsJayy will look in to that. Anything to get to the bottom of it. I have no cycle as such, just seem to permanently fatigued, bloated and on or off. Think I should maybes get checked over.

My surgery has stopped doing blood tests for this. They said it wasn't worth doing and they make a judgement on symptoms alone. Have a look at AMA Obs/Gyne thread. There's some good advice and also a link to a website summarising the HRT research.

Definitely get your hormone levels checked. Sounds like you could be in the peri. I started taking EPO when I started and it really helped with the hot flushes and mood swings which was a nice surprise. Also if I ate healthily and exercised (a bit ) this helped too.
