Last day at work

So I am leaving a job I loathe today after a year and 3 months. My boy was ill earlier this week and I had 2 leave work to collect him which I now have to take as holiday leave. I have been I'll, yesterday and today -my last day and have followed procedure and called in but because it's my last day they want my security pass back. I have said I will return this when I go to college on weds when I study with a lady still at work or I can return it with my brother but they are insisting on calling me to get it back today. I don't think this is acceptable as I was stressed having to answer for being off and I'll end up having to justify it all again when they call later. I kinda feel like I'm being harassed and I certainly don't want them round my house! What can I do? All I want to do is walk away and forget I ever took that job!

Does the security pass let you into buildings / access private and confidential information, if so can see why they'd want it back today if it's your last day. Whist I understand you're ill, from the companies perspective after today you no longer work there so they won't want an ex employee holding onto a security pass, nor would they want it handing in by someone who wasn't the actual employee.

Just send it in with your brother as planned.

They are probably a bit wary as you've handed your notice in, had your last few days off for a variety of reasons and will now have the security pass beyond your employment.

Not saying you've done any of those things on purpose, these things happen, but can see it from their point of view as well, even if they aren't aware you loathe the job.
