Backhanded compliments

When I used to play rugby, we went on a night out in the local town for a piss up a spot of team bonding.

One of the ladies, who had never really bothered speaking to me (so I didn't bother either), turned to me and said "You know, Plink, you're actually alot more interesting than I thought you were."

😂😂

Granted, she was drunk but I'm curious and want to hear -

What backhanded compliments have you received? The more outrageous the better! 😂

My MIL, who said to me on our wedding day - “it’s funny, he’s been out with so many prettier girls than you, but you’re the one who’s made him happiest!”

Someone recently said to me. 'I knew you were English'.
How? I said, is it because of my skin? (white as a ghost)
No, it's your nose. You have an English nose.

MIL said to me when I'd lost weight 'you can see your features now you've lost weight'

My DH once told me he was glad to have met me because all his previous girlfriends had been pretty but horrible, whereas I am beautiful where it matters - on the inside. Thanks for that.

From a colleague, years ago:

From boyfriend, this actually made me cry in not a good way and took some explaining why

Was told my DSis now xSIL at a family do that she didn't know I was capable of having fun. She wasn't ever a popular individual.

Was told by X's friend who couldn't stand me, that I'd turned from being an ugly duckling into a swan - boak!

I used to cycle in to my old job. A girl I worked with said “oh I wish I could cycle in...I’m just not fit enough. It’s okay for you you’ve got big thick thighs mine are so thin!” 🙄

If that was his best chat up line I'd hate to hear his worst . You'll be amazed to hear I didn't swoon into his arms.

Oh, yes, I'd forgotten the salesman who, when I answered the door, asked if either of my parents were in so he could talk to them about whatever he was selling. I was 35 and I didn't really see it as a compliment! My kids found it found though.

MIL (after I'd made one of my one-pot specials) "That wasn't bad, considering what you put in it!"

As a young Athena in the 1980s I was out clubbing when this man comes up to me, looks me up and says 'now that's what I call an arse'

Friend of friend "I think it's so important to say something nice when you can tell someone has made an effort " !!!

Random boy of 20 ish at bus stop (after asking when the next 281 would be arriving): "I bet you was really good looking when you was younger".

From a hairdresser:

'Your hair could look quite nice actually'
