Who has the best tech in your household?

I was discussing this with a friend at the weekend. In their home, the dh had the most expensive, up to date tech, followed by the dw then the kids.

In my home, it's me, followed by the kids and dh is bottom of the pile. Hates smart phones so has a Nokia 3310 that I got him for Christmas. And he uses one if dc1s cast off laptops that is tiny, had a broken screen that he fixed. But he fixed with a screen that was a bit too big from a previous machine so it overhangs the lid casing slightly. His tablet is one of dc2s cast offs and is on its last legs.

Me 😁 I have new(ish) smartphone, tablet, Echo, Kindle.

Then my DC - old tablets, 3/4 generations ago phones.

Then DH, who has a very old, cracked screen iPhone. That's the extent of his technological ownership.

At the moment dd1, just replaced her laptop as her old one gave up the ghost and she's doing Alevels so really needed a decent one

dd2 next, then me, dh only has what he really needs, an old phone and tablet

Kleptronic · 04/10/2018 22:58

Me but I am a programmer so I have all kinds of crap. My son had a newer model phone than mine, but he left it in a cafe in town, and so now he has a Nokia brick.

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2018 23:03

I have the newest laptop. DS(21) is about to buy a tablet so his will be the best in the house. He also has the most up to date smartphone at the moment until DH upgrades his.

TheGirlWhoLived · 04/10/2018 23:06

I do

I have the latest iPhone, newest games consoles, MacBook, smart tv, smart tech house (I am a living, breathing megageek!) etc ... then dd1 (8) has new iPad / kindle tablet and iPod... dd2 (4) has 3ds and access to ipad /tablet etc

Dp has recently upgraded his iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5 and doesn’t really know how to work anything else Grin
He loves it though!

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 04/10/2018 23:22

A recurring theme already!
I have the best, then DS (though he has an amazing gaming pc, not counting that as we wouldn't use one) Then comes DH with his limpy old iPad mini and SE phone- he's perfectly happy with them and maintains he "wouldn't know how to use a newer model" despite only owning Apple products for the last few years
We go through the same mini crisis every time something reaches the end of its natural life Grin

QuantumGroan · 04/10/2018 23:30

Tricky one - I have the best running headphones - he has a better phone - our computers we about equal. Trying not to buy tech unless there is a genuine need. Ds has got a better phone tgstdd - his old phone died.

PickAChew · 04/10/2018 23:38

I currently have a better phone than dh, but only because it's much newer. Our laptops are both getting on a bit, though his is slightly higher specced than mine.

His latest bit if kit is a rather heath Robinson set up of raspberry pi and some led arrays, mind :o he's a programmer and is planning on creating something silly for Christmas with them. It's just like those road matrix signs on a small scale, so he knows what he's doing, since he's worked with those, in the past.

Me but there's only me that lives here.

I am in my 60's and have never bothered about tech stuff really. Apart from having a decent laptop.....a Macbook Pro mid 2009 which I bought from new. It was running painfully slow last year so....
I upgraded the hard drive to the maximum size SSD drive, new battery, upgraded to maximum RAM.

I watched youtube videos on how to do the upgrades and did them myself.
It's like a new machine unbelievably fast!

I use an old sony xperia M as it's the only phone I can use with earphones that I can just about hear people talk(I'm as deaf as a post).

I have an iPhone 5s but it's been in it's box most of it's life as I cannot hear on it at all.
My Samsung Smart TV 32" packed up recently and I have just bought a
49" 4K Ultra TV to go with my PS4...granted these are more for the teenage grandsons than me.
I do use the PS4 to watch DVDs and with the new TV I am going to watch my way through my DVD collection again this winter!

Oh and I have remote control switches for all my lamps which can all be turned off at the touch of a button...this is my favourite bit of tech! Grin

BackforGood · 05/10/2018 01:07

(Adult) ds. He has different spending priorities from me.

Katedotness1963 · 05/10/2018 06:51

The teenagers. I don’t even have a mobile.

youarenotkiddingme · 05/10/2018 07:14

My 14 yo DS!

He has iPhone, laptop and iPad.

So do I but mine are older and haven't been replaced because I have less need than him.

Nenic · 05/10/2018 07:35

Me. I have an iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, iPhone, Apple Watch, echo show, uLtra hd TVs, PS4, Sonos...the list goes on. I love tech.

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 05/10/2018 07:54

Not sure who has the best, but I have the worst. DW and the DCs all have macbooks. I have to put up with the work Lenovo laptop. Having said that, this is definitely in “first-world problem” territory.

Camomila · 05/10/2018 09:38

Me, because I need a powerful laptop for work/uni. When I upgrade I'll give DH my old one.

DH has a slightly nicer phone though (just standard samsungs though)

1 ipad mini (it was a gift) shared between me, dh, and ds.

We're not a very techy house tbh. I still carry around a journal rather than organise stuff via my phone!
