Hello,

Slightly dramatic title but I haven't been to the dentist in 4 years. I've had a proper look at my teeth and I've got lots of plaque and tartar build up and I think my gums have receded a bit.

I'm so annoyed at myself and have booked an appointment to go this month. I've also order a fancy electric toothbrush with an app.

Has anyone had lots of build up, had it removed and all's good?

My husband hadn’t gone to the dentist for 16years. He had a clean done as he had really bad plaque build up and his teeth look amazing now

Electric tooth brush and use these. I'm sure they'll soon sparkle ✨

If you don't have pain, bleeding or loose teeth you are probably just fine. Do go though, dentists are good for preventing problems and spotting oral health issues, not just fixing things when they're broken.

Hygienist here
Sounds like you need a thorough clean possibly a deep clean
And a proper check up with the dentist
If they do X-rays they will able to check for decay under old fillings bone levels and how much tartar you have. It’s best to go and hear what’s going on as if you leave it you may get mobile teeth and that’s not great
Don’t worry tho. I’d bet they’ve seen much worse They won’t judge

Full marks for the electric brush And make sure that you are getting in between with some little brushes every day
And go back every 6 months

Yes there is hope.I hadn't been for 8 years. Went in September, dentist was lovely nothing wrong except tartar build up so hygienist appointment recommended-went this week all tartar build up and stains have gone. Cost £55 but I am happy with my teeth again!
