Highly recommend the Judges Lodgings for your hotel stay. It's beautiful has had a massive revamp with 2.35mil spent on it. The perfect place for a 'honeymoon' of sorts.
What type of food do you like to eat when you are out ?
Ive lived in York my whole life so would be happy to help you and advise you !

If you like museums then go to the Castle museum behind Clifford's tower.
Depending what time of year you are coming York looks beautiful on an evening with all the Christmas lights up in the streets.
There's a market place with lots of quirky little stalls and beer tents.
Behind the Minster there is a new Thor's tipi that serves drinks and 'viking' food which is lovely on a night all lit up.
There is the dungeons. The museum gardens, you can take a trip down the river on a tour boat or hire your own little red boat.
There are ghost walks every evening all over the city centre for about £2 each (also a ghost bus too)
There are 365 pubs in York, one for each day of the year !
There are cocktail bars and alchemist scientific style places. Lots of live music venues and up and coming bands, open mic nights and talent shows.
We also have a comedy basement too with local talent doing stand up. There really is sooo much to do!

Eat at Star Inn the City, Cat's Pyjamas, Ambiente, Skoosh, drink at Spark, The Attic (gin palace above Harlequins Cafe), Sutlers, The Hop. If you want to do Bettys, you can queue for less time by saying yes to sitting downstairs, or by going to Little Bettys on Stonegate.

What's your budget like? If you're splurging then Middlethorpe Hall or the Grand are fabulous.

For a real nice meal I'd look at Skosh, The Rattle Owl, Meltons or the new Tommy Banks place - I think it's called Roots.

Manions is good for lunch, Dyls is very quirky and good views of the river. The Star Inn the City is great for a drink after a stroll round Museum Gardens.

I agree that the Judges is good, I like a little lunch in there.

I don't think Bettys is worth queuing for. Jorvik is a bit pants too.
