Is anyone on the Wirral? Do you know which is the best train station to use to view the Giant tomorrow please?

Will be travelling from Chester.

TIA

I've just checked the locations and so you need to get on the Liverpool train at Chester get off at Hamilton Square and change to New Brighton

PawneeParksDept · 04/10/2018 16:46

When you get off at New Brighton and out of the station you'll see that you are at the top of a steep hill, walk all the way down.

There's a Morrison's and Starbucks and such like walk past all that and keep going Fort Perch Rock and the Floral are at the bottom of that stretch

Horsemad · 04/10/2018 17:36

Aah, thank you for this 🙂 How far would you say it is from the station to Fort Perch Rock?

PawneeParksDept · 04/10/2018 17:54

It's just a 10-12 minute walk

AdaColeman · 04/10/2018 19:32

There has been a change to the route in New Brighton tomorrow.
Now Giant will stop at Clown Roundabout for a siesta, in the afternoon he will board a vehicle at Floral Pavilion and travel along the waterfront to Hertford Drive.
Hope that helps you.

Horsemad · 04/10/2018 20:10

Thank you both, we are currently having a big deliberation whether to go to see the Wirral giant, or go into Liverpool instead.
The problem we have is that my mum wants to accompany us but she can't walk long distances, so the Wirral seemed the better one but we were going for the afternoon & now it seems like the giant isn't walking in the afternoon?

It's just short of a mile between the station and Fort Perch Rock 0.7 miles so if that's a struggle for your Mum you might be better off going to St George's Hall which is directly opposite Lime Street Station. Literally feet.

Horsemad · 04/10/2018 20:33

I think you're right, will speak to her & see what she wants to do. Thanks again! 🙂

I'd really like to go to this this weekend. Will it be so crowded that it will be horrible with children aged 4 and 8? I get the train over for Manchester. I'm wondering if it will be impossible to find anywhere to go and eat.

PawneeParksDept · 04/10/2018 20:40

@ZenNudist it really will be crowded but it shouldn't be too hard as there are loads of places to eat even if you have dietary needs

If you tell me what sort of food you like/need I can make recommendations, you might even be able to book at this late stage if you want a proper restaurant not fast food

AdaColeman · 04/10/2018 20:40

The New Brighton time table seems to be
11:15 to 1:00 Walk along the seafront from Perch Rock
1:00 to 3:00 Sleeps
3:00 to 4:00 Walks back along seafront to Floral Pavilion
4:00 to 4:30 On vehicle along river front
4:30 Gets on boat to go up river.

Horsemad · 04/10/2018 20:50

Oh that sounds hopeful Ada, I thought he wasn't walking after his 1-3 sleep from your earlier post.

I did wonder how the giant was getting to Liverpool 🙂

"Giant Spectacular" on Twitter should tell you more Horsemad have a great day!

Horsemad · 04/10/2018 20:59

Thanks, off to read it! 🙂

@PawneeParksDept thanks. I am easy would go anywhere that does nice family friendly food. I just dont know Liverpool very well so wouldn't know where to start. I guess i need to research the parade route (off to look at that twitter thread and the echo)

If we went on Sunday how would we get the best out of the day?

ZenNudist · 04/10/2018 21:22

this is helpful

PawneeParksDept · 04/10/2018 21:23

I'm not sure about getting the best out of the day as I am not going this year (living elsewhere right now) and so don't know much about the route stops

Liverpool One has just about every chain restaurant going including TGI, Waga, Five Guys, Pizza Express, Wetherspoons

Elsewhere Bold Street is really well known for strong independent restaurants

I particularly love LEAF

Horsemad · 05/10/2018 16:47

Well we made it! Was really good too! Thanks for all the information. 🙂

How lovely of you to come back and tell us about it! Glad you had a super day!

Horsemad · 05/10/2018 18:39

Thank you, I may go to Liverpool now on Sunday to see the finalé 🙂

I was there this afternoon too. Waited around for quite a long time but it was worth it!

Was a bit shocked by the giant dropping the f-bomb though.

Saw the boy giant and the dog in Princes Park earlier in the day, it was crowded there & I struggled a bit to see, being a little short...

So glad I got to see this. I'm from the area (Southport) originally, but live in S Wales so haven't had the chance before.

Horsemad · 05/10/2018 21:51

@emsiewill - the giant dropped the f-bomb? Shock

I didn't hear that!

OP posts:
emsiewill · 05/10/2018 21:55

Yes, we were just by Morrisons and he said "Come on New Brighton Fucking hell" (or something similar) a couple of times...

I have it on video...

Horsemad · 05/10/2018 22:11

Ooh I was stood there and have some video as does my sister, will check ours! Shock I did hear them say 'Come on New Brighton'.
