Help.....need dinner party menu for Saturday

Have a dinner party on Saturday. Great friends but quite fussy and plain eaters. I have gone completely blank and have no idea what to serve. So please give me some ideas. Need a starter, thinking maybe something with prawns or goats cheese as know they would eat those. Main would be chicken something, but nothing spicy. Not fussed too much about dessert as can knock something up.
I want it to look nice and a bit special not like a mid week dinner. I'm not too bad a cook but just stumped.
So please bombard me with menus. Thanks

What about a baked camembert or similar for starter? For chicken main I would do chicken wrapped in Parma ham or similar stuffed with pesto. I'm not great at desserts but you seem to have that covered from your OP

Go Retro
Prawn cocktail
Coq au Vin
and buy in a Black Forest gateau
then you can all get your best 70s fancy dress out and put on some Tiger Feet

Sounds good but needs to be a bit more fancy if possible, although like the idea of dancing to tiger feet 😀😀😀

Couple of starter ideas:

  • Burrata, pine nut and peach salad (if they are funny swap peach for tomato)
  • Goats cheese and beetroot terrine (great Helmsley & Helmsley recipe somewhere)
  • Prawns in a creamy garlicy sauce with lovely bread

Mains:

  • Chicken pie, sides of mash and buttered greens
  • Beef wellington (sides as above)
  • Salmon with pesto, roasted tomatoes
  • Butternut squash and blue cheese risotto
  • a roast chicken with roasted veg, jewelled cous cous. Instead of making a gravy from the chicken, roast a head of garlic and some lemons along with it and mash them into the chicken juices. I would rub paprika and oregano into the skin for more middle eastern vibes.

Is there a theme? A type of food you plan to serve?

Middle eastern food is lovely

I just cooked Delia Smiths chicken with tarragon in sherry. Its lovely and very easy, she suggested new potaotes and peas, but I am doing twice baked potatoes and roasted asparagus

Dessert, hazelnut meringue torte, another delia, but swap the apricots for raspberries and cream and dont build it until you are about to eat it.

Starters, how about a lovely cheeseboard with some fun salami and nuts etc, You can decorate it with leaves and grapes and everyone can help themselves and drink bubbles. Helping yourself is good for fussy eaters.

Poshed up prawn cocktail to start - www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/crayfish-cocktail-horseradish-cream

Or do lots of canapés (bought in from M&S or Cook) instead of a starter and they can pick the ones they fancy.

Coq au vin for main, with really good mash and fine beans.

Individual trifles for dessert? Or lemon posset?

Goats cheese and pepper tarts make a good starter, or go full retro with avocado and prawns. For a main try chicken stuffed with mozzarella (guessing blue cheese is out) wrapped in pancetta and serve with a mustard and white wine sauce in a jug (Jamie Oliver has a recipe I've used). Dessert - apples are in season, Dutch apple flan is a nice alternative to pie as it's more of a sponge case.

Quite 70's really but know your guests - my mum would love this menu

We do stuffed chicken breast as a dinner party main, can't remember where I found the recipe but basically slice it open partlg so you've got a pocket, stuff with goats cheese and a day's lsaf, wrap in Parma h and roast. V nice. With dauphinois maybe?

TotHappy · 04/10/2018 18:01

A sage leaf
Not a day's lsaf

Justtheoneplease · 04/10/2018 18:04

Think I will do a stuffed chicken, need more idea for starters ideally using prawns

Main: stuff chicken with chorizo and wrap with parma ham. Serve with black rice, chargrilled red peppers (from jar), broad beans/edamame and saffron sauce.

Tempura battered prawns and vegetables with dip?
