How do you make your house smell nice?

Just that really! I think just opening the windows is the best way but with winter approaching I thought I might try something else. I usually have scented candles lit in the evenimg in the autumn/winter but the smell doesbt really linger & the good ones are pretty ££.

Thanks in advance Smile

I wash the floor with zoflora.

Smellybears · 04/10/2018 14:33

Regarding zoflora, how do you use it? I mop my floors with bleach as I have a dog. Do I use zoflora as well?

Haworthia · 04/10/2018 14:41

Don’t mix Zoflora and bleach.

Zoflora is a disinfectant on its own. You could use it diluted in water to mop the floors instead of bleach. There’s a pet friendly version too I think.

GoldenHoops · 04/10/2018 14:41

I open the windows all year round. Use less than the recommend amount of zoflora on the floors. Wash soft furnishings regularly and use fresh flowers or candles in certain areas. I also have banned the Newfies from the sitting room.

Elephantinacravat · 04/10/2018 14:42

God, don't use Zoflora on the floor if you have wooden floors!

averylongtimeago · 04/10/2018 14:52

I have golden retrievers. And tiled floors Grin.
One capful of pet friendly zoflora in the mop bucket. No need for bleach.

Gets rid of the doggy pong.
Well until they go swimming or roll in fox shit anyway.

MadMaryBoddington · 04/10/2018 14:58

Scented geraniums on windowsills, console tables and that ilk. Whenever you brush past them you get a waft of nice lemony smell.

BitchQueen90 · 04/10/2018 15:01

Plug in air fresheners. And I open the windows for a bit every day even in winter.

3secondsfromchaos · 04/10/2018 15:02

I love a Zoflora thread 😁

Eatmycheese · 04/10/2018 15:03

Plug in Water diffuser with a nice essential oil like lemongrass or neroli or rose

Chesterfieldsofa · 04/10/2018 15:05

Leave the dog in the garden.

Fluffyears · 04/10/2018 15:07

Don’t leave plug ins unattended they are a fire risk. My friend works as a caree and they are banned in the houses she visits.

crazylittlething · 04/10/2018 15:07

Wax melts I sell them and use them in my home they are really strong and based on popular perfumes.

ShesABelter · 04/10/2018 15:08

I soak tumble drier sheet and then put them inside my cushions on the couch. Use an electric was turned and buy was melts from bags of thought. Mix a cap of zoflora with water in a spray bottle and clean work surfaces, spray it on my couch, mop floors with it mixed with flash. You can also soak tumble drier sheets the sit them on your radiators and when they are turned on the house smells amazing.

Fluffyears · 04/10/2018 15:08

Also got me I open windows for a while every day, winter or summer. Also like burning incense to make the house smell nice.

ToadOfSadness · 04/10/2018 15:08

If you have allergies or sensitivities do not use Zoflora or reed diffusers and keep them well away from pets, they are the work of the devil and are headache and vomit inducing in some cases. Reeds remove fur from pets.

I open the windows all year round for a few hours and keep the house clean. Sometimes use a Floris candle for a short time after cooking, rarely an essential oil diffuser, but need to be careful of allergies.

ShesABelter · 04/10/2018 15:09

*electric wax burner!

Dandybelle · 04/10/2018 15:15

In the winter, when the radiators are on, if you give them a wipe down with a warm water/laundry softener mix (1:2) then your whole house will smell beautifully of fresh washing 😊

IdaBWells · 04/10/2018 15:17

I lived in Germany for a number of years until recently and I loved how common it was to give the house an "airing". You would frequently drive past houses with the windows open and the duvet hanging over the window sill and pillows sitting in the window frame.

The Germans also don't really go for clutter and I think less stuff everywhere helps cut back on musty smells. It's much easier to wiz around with a hoover or wash the floor.

Babykoala1 · 04/10/2018 15:18

Plug in - air wick essential oils, fresh linen and lilac. Smells yummy Smile Glade automatic spray - most of the flavours are nice apart from cotton fresh, it's yucky.
And wash all clothes, bed sheets and cushion covers with comfort blue skies fabric conditioner and make my own fabric freshener spray using comfort blue skies and water to spray the furniture.
Even when my life is spiralling out of control, at least my house smells nice. Grin

AamdC · 04/10/2018 15:19

Ooh thats a good tip.Dandy im going to try that!

Sassy306 · 04/10/2018 15:23

Diluted comfort intense in a spray bottle. Spray curtains and any fabrics. Put lenor unstoppables inside cushions and if you put some in your vacuum the house smells amazing when you hoover :) i love cinnamon so i burn essential oil in an oil burner in the evenings.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 04/10/2018 15:24

I hate plug-in synthetic smells, and Zoflora isn't allowed on floors because we have many, many pets.

I always have windows open even in winter months, plus I always have fresh flowers around the house. Those two alone work pretty well. I don't have clutter or carpets downstairs, so that reduces smells too.

SimplyPut · 04/10/2018 15:32

In our house windows are opened daily.
Clean cotton dettol spray on curtains and soft furnishings. Clean cotton zoflora diluted in a spray bottle for work surfaces and neat zoflora down plug holes.
Hoover daily and use furniture polish on woodwork.
Fresh flowers in the hall and lounge.
Decent candle burnt sparingly.

MotherWol · 04/10/2018 15:37

Essential oil burner with a blend of peppermint, rosemary and eucalyptus essential oils. Windows open for fresh air. Few drops of essential oil on the vacuum cleaner bag when you change it.
