How do you make your house smell nice?

Just that really! I think just opening the windows is the best way but with winter approaching I thought I might try something else. I usually have scented candles lit in the evenimg in the autumn/winter but the smell doesbt really linger & the good ones are pretty ££.

Thanks in advance Smile

Firstly; Empty bins regularly, remove any finished cut flowers, wash soft furnishings eg sofa cushions, covers and curtains regularly, bleach drains regularly. Open the windows.

I sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the carpet and leave for half hour before hoovering. I also sprinkle a bit of shake 'n' vac before hoovering too.

I mop floors with diluted Zoflora

I try and wash soft furnishings regularly but they're a bastard to get dry. In the in-between time, I spray them with diluted fabric conditioned to freshen them up a bit.

Bathroom wiped every day with original Dettol.

Sounds daft but kitchen door always shut and window always open when cooking smelly food.

I bought the dog some pet perfume Blush

Keep the house clean and air it to remove bad smells, then add a nice scent.

Keep pets clean and well groomed.
Clean the hoover and filter.
Put a drop of fabric softener on a damp cloth and hang it on the radiator. (Even if it isn't on it still works.)

I burn soy wax tarts from one brand only (I don't like any others!)
Usually citrus or laundry scent but sometimes more mystical ones

t00dle00 · 04/10/2018 16:02

Open the windows, plug in air fresheners on low, Reed diffusers or lavender oil mixed up with water in a spray bottle.

Believeitornot · 04/10/2018 16:03

Another one who opens the windows every day in all weathers all year!

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 04/10/2018 17:35

I'm still trying to figure this sentence out... Use an electric was turned and buy was melts from bags of thought Grin Grin

I like a good old fashioned joss (incense) stick

gingercat02 · 04/10/2018 17:57

Where do people get big packs of bicarb for cleaning I only ever see tiny baking sized pots

EscapeToTheMoon · 04/10/2018 18:03

I have four cats and four dogs. I use Zoflora on my floors and have done for nearly 20 years. I also have wooden floors - it's never damaged them Confused

Zoflora is fine for pets if used correctly.

Meltedicicle · 04/10/2018 18:22

Open windows as much as possible, us extractor fan when cooking, put a tumble dryer sheet on a radiator when your heating is on and my favourite, bake a cake Smile

AuLoinSontVontLesNuages · 04/10/2018 18:26

I have one of these and change the essential oils I use quite regularly.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/10/2018 18:31

I bought bicarbonate from Amazon.

RubyLux · 04/10/2018 18:35

Wot?

Kemer2018 · 04/10/2018 18:38
  1. Shut the childs door.
  2. Send partner out
  3. Open windows
4 light a candle

I detest plug ins. Partner uses them and i switch off the minute his back is turned. Chemical shite.

Thinkingofausername1 · 04/10/2018 18:41

Another vote for zoflora

SeagIass · 04/10/2018 18:45

Have you a Homesense near you? Great quality scented candles for not very much pence. DW Home are my favourite brand.

Cornettoninja · 04/10/2018 19:37

gingercat Wilkos do boxes of bicarb in the cleaning aisle, they’re about £1 I think.

Or as a pp said amazon.

JaneJeffer · 04/10/2018 19:57

I think...

I can't stand synthetic fragrances. I use essential oils and an ultra sonic diffuser (you lose the therapeutic benefits and top notes when you heat them). My house smells amazing.

gingercat02 · 05/10/2018 08:09

Thanks off to Wilkos after work

ScottChegg · 05/10/2018 08:11

I like nag champa incense, the smell lingers for ages.
