Colds causing itchy mouth/ throat?

I posted something similar nearly a month ago but now it’s happening again I’m so confused.

About three weeks ago I caught a nasty virus - sore throat, headache, fever etc which turned into a cold and cough. I had a very weird symptom which was the inside of my mouth and throat were intensely itchy, as were the corners of my mouth. I thought maybe I was developed HFM but there were no blisters.

I have severe allergies to nuts and seeds and my early reactions caused the same sort of intense itching before they progressed to anaphylaxis, so this symptom made me nervous. But it lasted for days and never developed into a more severe reaction and it didn’t happen in response to food.

Just after the bug has gone through the family and I’ve picked up another bloody cold. Not as bad as the last one, I don’t feel too unwell, but the itching is back. Mouth, throat, corners of my mouth / cheeks all itching like crazy. This has never happened with a cold before and now twice in a row! In between the two colds the symptom went completely. I can’t think of anything out of the ordinary I ate or drank both then and now, and didn’t have in the period in between. It must be related to the bugs.

Has anyone ever experienced this? I’m pretty sure it’s not a reaction as again it came on suddenly, not after eating or drinking, and it has lasted all day. Antihistamines aren’t making a difference.

I should probably go to the doctor if it continues but it sounds bonkers so I thought I’d ask if anyone has ever had this!

I think it might be allergic rhinitis, like hayfever, but triggered by something other than pollen. I'd see your GP, given your other allergies. A nasal spray may help.

I always get this before a cold. Especially the roof of my mouth. Including an intense itch somewhere between my ear and throat that can’t be relieved by anything. It’s very annoying. I have a bad cold at the moment and woke up massively itchy at the back of my throat. I don’t have food allergies but am very prone to itchy allergies from house dust and animals and get dreadful hay fever and fungus spore allergies.

Sorry - had a crazy week and forgot I had posted this! It’s good to know I’m not the only one so I’m not going completely mad. I’ll definitely mention it to the doctor, need to talk about my allergies anyway.

I've had this for a couple of weeks. A cold that won't go away, and itchy around the moth / the roof of the mouth. I'm thinking it's a virus and waiting for it to wear off. Mostly the cold has been fairly mild but I've felt very hot at times and the last couple of days felt quite tired and ill with a sore throat. Today, DH not feeling well. Not itchy though. I imagine it'll go off eventually.

I've had this symptom with colds since I was a child. The roof of my mouth itches every single time and I used to scratch it raw, but then started using topical lignocaine, which helps. About half of colds give me itchy ear drums, which is really annoying of course i'd never stick anything smaller than my elbow in to me ear to scratch them, oh no

During a recent cold my husband actually commented that "no one gets colds quite like you do" whilst my eyes were non-stop streaming and I was clawing at my ears and mouth!
