My DD is looking for P/T work , most of it seems to be for 18+
She's at 6th Form 5 days a week so it would be mainly weekends or evenings.

Can anyone suggest anything?
What are your 16yo doing?

Thanks

Ds does a shift washing up in a local pub.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 03/10/2018 19:45

cafe (waitress)

Knittedfrog · 03/10/2018 19:46

Dd worked for next when she was 16. She had school friendly shifts.

Caselgarcia · 03/10/2018 19:48

Two delivery rounds and occasional event work for festivals etc

southnownorth · 03/10/2018 19:49

She is desperately trying but has had so many rejections.

Her bestie works in McDonalds. They work her hours around college.

HRTpatch · 03/10/2018 19:50

Yes mine worked 12 hours a week for a major retail company. Still works for them while he is at uni.

Biancadelriosback · 03/10/2018 19:50

I worked for Primark from 16yo to 18yo. Thursdays from 5-8pm, all day Saturday and occasional Sundays.
Shops like that with late midweek opening times would be good

Findingdotty · 03/10/2018 19:52

There are quite a few jobs around for that age group depending on availability in your area.
Cafe work
Lifeguards
Reception work at leisure centres
Farm/stable work
Supermarket cashiers/shelf stacker
Supermarket shopping pickers
Weekend library assistants

Findingdotty · 03/10/2018 19:53

You may get sessional vacancies in retail this time of year too.

KeepCalm · 03/10/2018 19:53

DD does dishes at a local caff

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/10/2018 20:19

Thanks Smile

She's looking at Primark and supermarkets .
I suggested McD ro her.

She did work experience in WHSmith in Yr10 so she has a peripheral experience in retail, she was given shop floor tasks , not handling money . (And she had first hand experience how horrible customers can be , even to a 15yo . Good practice in Bite Your Tongue and Smile)

I worked in a local cafe and a pub as a waitress and in a retail store at 16 (that was 2012 though, mind)

YeOldeTrout · 03/10/2018 21:26

Sunday mornings in a news agent.

Mamaryllis · 03/10/2018 21:27

Lifeguard

Foodylicious · 03/10/2018 21:29

Cleaning in a care home (I think they prefer 18 min for direct care work)
Supermarket or shop work (again could be cleaning).

She could try Lush. I worked there for a while when I was at uni and there were quite a few 16 year olds. They pay the living wage to all their staff regardless of age and she'll get extra breaks etc because of her age. They were good to work for. They'll be looking for Xmas temps round about now and usually keep a good few on.

Teaonthelawn · 03/10/2018 21:50

Cafe work over the summer holidays. Now lifeguard at the local leisure centre. Friends work in Sainsbury and smaller local shops, Tennis club, cleaning holiday homes.. Has she looked on 'Indeed' ? My son got the cafe job from a facebook post. Sainsbury, Tesco etc can be found on Indeed.

Leeds2 · 03/10/2018 21:55

Friends' DC have worked in M&S, and at a local garden centre (retail, and in the café).

CherryPavlova · 03/10/2018 21:57

lots of local sixth formers work in Waitrose near here. They can transfer to store close to university too, if they want.

Kemer2018 · 03/10/2018 22:02

Centerparcs housekeeper.
Can just hoover and make beds as no chemicals for the under 18's.
Plus they get free day passes for family and friends.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/10/2018 22:05

DS is logged into 'Indeed' (he;s at University and looking for work too)

Sainsbury and Lush only accept online applications, DD needs to get her CV sorted .
