Interesting places to live in Brittany and Normandy

I plan to live in northern France for at least part of the year in the near future and it's time to start investigating locations and housing.

I want to live in a small to medium sized town, rather than rurally. Other than that ... anything considered!

Which towns have you been to that you really loved?

It really depends on what you want (so, that's bloomin' obvious), but, there's lots of coast, does that matter? will you want to take ferries or planes back to the UK? In Brittany, Department de Finistere is the NW corner, it's often colder there than in more southerly Morbihan. Cotes d'Armor and Iles et Vilaine are closer to St Malo for ferries. For towns, consider whether the town you are looking at is a major tourist trap (esp on the coast) because the traffic whilst not quite as bad as getting down to Cornwall in a hot Summer, can be bad, for example round Quimper, Carnac and Quiberon. Pontivy, Hennebont and Josselin are pretty, have busy commercial centres but are less touristy if you prefer inland (all in Morbihan).

About 8% of all the UK citizens living in France live in Brittany, the Bretons tend to be very welcoming (they prefer British incomes to Parisian ones Wink).

There are lots of Facebook pages for expats, and the AngloInfo site is also useful, you could also subscribe to Connexion, the English Language Newspaper for a good insight.

Sorry, that should be 'incommers' not 'incomes' - but actually, probably right first time!

Dinan! If my son wasn't so dead against it I'd be living there now, I think.
