DD7- MRI under GA as daypatient... What should I take?

DD is having an MRI under general anaesthetic next Wednesday, we should be home the same day (although I assume if they find anything serious they will keep us?). What should I take with me?
I thought

  • PJs so she can come home in something comfy and go straight to bed
  • pull ups (she's wet at night and if she's dozy from the GA)
  • Tablet with games and some Disney stuff downloaded for while we wait for her turn
  • soft toy
  • puzzle book for me for while she's at radiology / while she sleeps off the anaesthetic afterwards

This sound ok?

Sounds good, my ds had it done about the same age but was in chkmikdrens ward do plenty entertainment and he was given a portable dvd player when he was in bed after while they waited to see how he was. It was a super long day, he had to eat and keep it down for so long before he could leave so we were there about 12 hours. I'd maybe suggest taking a couple extra bits for yourself just in case

Socks! Because when you're having an MRI the room is often cold and you are laying there for ages.

Buggerbrexit · 03/10/2018 10:21

Take yourself snacks as well (you’ll know this, but don’t be tempted to let your dd eat anything at all before other than the early morning breakfast if it’s advised) and keep them out of dds sight 😉 Change for coffee in case they don’t take cards. Socks are a good shout although she won’t notice if she has a GA.

Make sure her clothing is plain with no glitter, metal, zips or toggles. Knickers included - if she has plain joggers and top, no toggles or anything she might be able to keep them on rather than a gown.

No kids, but had a lot of mris.

Charger for tablet/phone
Snack for you (cereal bar?)

Broken11Girl · 03/10/2018 10:33

Bb is right, she won't be able to wear anything metal in there. No jewellery, zips, etc. It's very important as it could damage the equipment and injure her or others.
Pjs are a good idea, as pp said she might be allowed to wear them instead of a gown. There should be a changing room provided.

a pillow and thin blanket for you
snacks and drinks for you
coins for vending mashines & parking
a lot something to read

Dd had one last month and again next Thursday. They have a playroom so that’s good bring food for after as she will be hungry and plenty of water

Ollivander84 · 03/10/2018 10:57

I wore pjs for my MRI! (They said oh this isn't your first rodeo then) Grin
Just a pair of pull on legging type bottoms, vest top and socks

Stinkyfeet · 03/10/2018 11:10

Your list looks fine. Ds1 used to like his own pillow to wake up on! Also, favourite snacks and drink for after - we weren't allowed to leave until he had eaten and drunk something.

You might want to think about also packing an overnight bag just in case you are kept in - clean underwear for you both, pjs, toiletries, phone/tablet chargers, any medication. Hopefully all will be fine and you'll go home same day, but one less thing to worry about it you don't.

Lacypants · 03/10/2018 11:22

Thanks everyone, can't believe I forgot snacks for me!
Good shout on the overnight bag, might just leave one packed at home that can be brought in if we need it.

Snacks for her too for when she wakes up and wants something

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2018 12:27

Metal free pjs. We keep our kids only for an hour after GA so don't worry about an overnight bag.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/10/2018 12:28

If it's anything like our day case unit there just isn't space for loads of bags.
