Teasmade or kettle & faffage

I know my kitchen isn’t far away and I know that I could go and make myself a cuppa as soon as I wake up in the morning....but I just can’t get my arse out of bed until tea has been forthcoming...

I’ve looked at many teasmades which are hideously retro and I think a travel kettle would probably suffice but it would look really weird in my bedroom.

I’ve tried kicking DH really hard and that works maybe 40% of the time but it’s the other 60% of mornings when I really need hot tea.

Has anyone got a fancy teasmade or a sensible nice looking solution to my tea making conundrum?

I keep nearly buying a hotcup but can't work out how to solve milk storage in bedroom.

Blue tooth kettle - saves hanging around waiting?

Teaaids need setting up the night before with milk etc - not great in the summer

have you seen the sage tea maker

I have a standard teas made. I don’t use it at the mo as we now have a doggy and I have a new routine ( go down. Put kettle on. Let dog out. Make tea. Send her up to leap on dh)
But I loved it pre dog

I have tea bags and powdered milk and sweeteners upstairs

Well, your hideously retro is just my Retro with a capital R, and the thing I truly wish I'd kept when I downsized, was my Teasmade! And strangely, one of the friends who moved my furniture for me, asked if he could have it to gift to a friend who wanted one. And I miss it every single morningSad

And it's the best alarm ever. First, you stir gently with the noise of the hissing and bubbling, before being woken fully by a strident alarm, a lamp - and the radio. And then, of course, there's the tea...

Why oh why, did I ever think that I could do without it? Bloody genius invention.

DH used to bring me coffee in bed every morning, and when he started working away during the week, he bought me a one-cup water boiler - it’s the Murphy Richards one. I have a small vacuum flask for the milk, which works very well.

I have a travel kettle on a small tray. I don't have milk but if I did I'd get a small flask. When I go to bed, I just take up a clean mug pre-primed with teabag.

I don't think it looks odd but also I don't care Grin It's there cos I like it

I had a Teasmaid. The tea wasn’t hot enough.

elastamum · 03/10/2018 07:44

I have a one cup kettle that dispenses a single cup of boiling water every time I press the button and a flask of milk with an ice cube in. It is a brilliant way to wake up!!

Mistoffelees · 03/10/2018 07:49

I have a teasmade and I now can't get up for work without it. It is sometimes a faff to prepare the night before but not really anymore hassle than getting up in the morning to make tea.
Milk is fine over night through autumn, winter and spring in a little jug covered with foil and in summer I freeze milk in ice cube trays and take around 5 of them up in the jug ready to be melted by morning.

why not put one of these in your room (might have to move the wardrobe out).

We have a Nespresso machine in our bedroom as we prefer coffee. It's a little luxury we enjoy daily x

We have a travel kettle fir this. Apart from about 10 days a year when it’s realky, really hot, a small jug of milk is fine unrefrigerated over night. Or use a Thermis/insulated jug. Or buy those little thimbles of UHT.

oldgimmer78 · 03/10/2018 09:30

Does the teasmade/maid work on the same principle as a nespresso type thing, ie it just heats the water? I had images of a little robotic arm swinging out and adding milk/sugar If that is the case the water is just hot, but not boiling which doesn't suit me.

MinecraftHolmes · 03/10/2018 09:34

WHY had I not thought of moving my Lavazza machine into the bedroom?! I think you might have changed my life borntobeamum.

QOD · 03/10/2018 15:20

@borntobeamum for some reason I’d never considered a coffee machine!!!
Excellent idea

And for my teas made I either have those tiny long life milk pots or a tin of coffee mate

QOD · 03/10/2018 15:21

@oldgimmer78 my tea is mouth scaldingly hit when I just use the coffee mate
