Dry clean only rug - can I wash it in the machine?

It’s a small shaggy rug, quite lightweight so don’t think it’ll be a nightmare to dry.

Label says its 100% polyester.

If I stick it on a delicate wash, do you think it’ll be ruined?

I'm quite reckless with stuff like that, so I would. I'd put it in on its own though, in case the colour runs.

And I'd probably try and tumble dry it too Might end up the size of a facecloth I suppose...

I wouldn't tumble it but I would certainly wash it in a machine. I think the only thing I wouldn't wash would be if it was wool.

😁 I’d have probably given the tumbler a whirl too, but best not!

Thanks bothSmile

I wouldn't worry about the rug, but I would be worried about it moulting all over the inside of your washing machine. Could you put it inside a knotted quilt cover or something, just in case?

I have a nice Marks and Spencer dry clean only jacket which had been hung up gathering dust for a bit when it should have probably already been dry cleaned at least twice. I was so embarrassed about the state of it I was not letting any dry cleaner see it so put it in the washing machine on a wool wash. Came out lovely. I now wash it on a standard wash so it gets more of a spin and dries quicker.

My thoughts were - I can't wear it in it's dirty state anyway, so if it gets ruined in the machine I am no worse off. If it is fine in the machine then I can wear it again so I am better off. With your rug I would only risk washing it in the machine if it is not the end of the world if it comes out ruined, but also try to protect your machine from mounting fibres by putting it inside something like a duvet cover, you don't want to clog the machine up and have an expensive repair bill.

Oh nooo I’ve already put it in now 🤦‍♀️ Fingers crossed it’ll be ok, should know in an hour or so.

Well, did the rug and washing machine survive? 🤞

POPholditdown · 02/10/2018 16:27

Yes, thankfully! There aren’t any loose bits in the drum (that I can see anyway), so hopefully no clogging😊

Check the filter!

Grand. Maybe put the WM on a rinse cycle to get rid of any fluff before using it again. Glad it washed ok and you'll save a couple of bucks by not having to dry clean it in future. Result!
