What to do in Blackpool?

CrochetBelle · 02/10/2018 10:07

Spending the weekend in Blackpool and have no plans for the Monday, so asked the 13 year old to take a look online and pick something. Unfortunately, she's so laid back and just says "dunno", so it looks like I'm going to have to pick.

We already have plans for the Pleasure Beach, tram ride, arcades, prom.

We have....
Tower -
Madame Tussauds - kids seem quite interested in this but neither are particularly clued up about famous/well known people so not sure how much they will 'get'?
Zoo -

Which would you do? Any further suggestions?

We went round the Tower a couple of years ago. It was great. Spent hours there. Did the circus, the dungeons, went up to the top of the tower, had a coffee in the ballroom. The dungeons were the best bit. Stanley Park is nice if the weather is good. Hope you enjoy it.Smile

Dobbythesockelf · 02/10/2018 10:28

Sea life centre??

Rarfy · 02/10/2018 10:31

I really enjoyed Ripleys if it is still there.

The circus in the tower is apparently really good too.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/10/2018 11:03

Leave it?

EscapeToTheMoon · 02/10/2018 12:01

Avoid it!

Its grim. If you must go spend the day at the swimming place? Youll be out of Tussauds in less than 2 hours. Tower was 2 hours and pleasure beach was about 4.

QueenNovo · 02/10/2018 12:02

Do the sand castle water park, but go early because it gets really busy later in the day.

CrochetBelle · 02/10/2018 12:29

We decided on the eye and the circus but then see the circus isn't open that day 😞

So we are going to tag the eye on to one of the other days, and use the day we have free to visit the zoo.

Tesco Clubcard are picking up a chunk of the cost so it's not too bad 😁

It really isn't nice. I've friends who go regularly, they enjoy the gay bars. But they say it's obscene at night, people having sex in the street. Honesty there's much nicer places to visit

MadisonAvenue · 02/10/2018 12:34

I'd go elsewhere, it's grim, especially on a weekend when it's full of hen and stag parties.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 02/10/2018 12:36

You won't be missing out OP, the circus is shit. The tower eye and dungeons are good though.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 02/10/2018 12:39

Drive to Cartmel and eat sticky toffee pudding instead. Or Lytham.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 02/10/2018 12:40

Or Grange over sands.

Trialsmum · 02/10/2018 12:41

Sandcastles waterpark definitely.

CrochetBelle · 02/10/2018 12:54

I don't plan on hanging around the streets at night with my children so as tempting as the gay bars sound, we'll probably miss them out Hmm

I said we are going, and was looking for advice on what to do, not to be told it was shit and not to go.

Thanks those who gave advice.

Ride the tram to Fleetwood.

Redglitter · 02/10/2018 12:59

Leave it & go to St Anne's & Lytham

thaegumathteth · 02/10/2018 13:03

My dc LOVE blackpool. Oddly they don’t hang around the streets at night watching people shagging...

The zoo is quite small but it’s nice especially the orangutans and the parrot show.

My kids really love Madame Tussaud’s - I don’t know why because they didn’t know quite a few of the people but hey ho.

I think it’s incredibly rude to reply to someone saying ‘the place you’re going that you’ve already booked is shit’ . FIrstly, it’s ALREADY booked and secondly just because that’s your opinion it doesn’t make it fact!

MaisyMary77 · 02/10/2018 13:08

I lived in Blackpool for a while, it’s not that bad! Tower and sea life are good and there’s the Pleasure Beach and the Sandcastle. A walk down the front on the promenade is nice. Your dd might enjoy the penny arcades? Might be a bit blustery in October though-but it will at least be fairly quiet as it’s no longer tourist season. Take the tram to Fleetwood, there’s a shopping outlet village called Freeport which is quite good. Stanley Park is also nice.

sonlypuppyfat · 02/10/2018 13:09

You go and have a lovely time then, why ask if you're not going to listen

CrochetBelle · 02/10/2018 13:10

sonly I asked what people would recommend to do whilst we are there, not opinions on whether or not we should have made plans to go in the first place.
There is a difference.

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 02/10/2018 13:16

OP, we spent the August bank holiday weekend in Blackpool, not with a 13yr old but 3x11yr olds and 2 U5's.

We did the following,
Day1- Pleasure Beach - all of the DC loved it.
Day2- Zoo - pretty good, the adults and U5's would have stayed all day but the 11yr olds got bored, so I guess it depends on whether you think your DC would be interested.
Day3- Tower eye - everyone loved it.
- Circus - just adult and U5's went, was shit so left half way through, as did many other people.
- Dungeons - adult and 11yr olds, all enjoyed it.
- Jungle Jim's - DC enjoyed it, but an hour flew by.
Day4- sealife with the U5's,, bowling with the 11yrs, followed by arcades and walked along piers.
We also swam everyday as hotel had a pool, otherwise probably would have done sandcastle.

HTH

Dobbythesockelf · 02/10/2018 13:17

OP has already booked her holiday, how is it helpful to tell her just to not go??
For what it's worth I don't mind Blackpool, yes it's a bit rundown and cheap but it is what it is. We went for a weekend last year and my dd thought it was great. Illumination will be on now as well which is always fun to drive/walk through. I hope you have a good time OP, in my experience holidays are what you make them.

Frogletmamma · 02/10/2018 13:22

See if there's anything on at tower ballrooms. I went there 5 years running as a child and it was fine.

Meltedicicle · 02/10/2018 13:24

We go quite a lot because in-laws are up there. We loved the circus, shame it isn’t on when you go. Sea life was great and we loved the zoo. Illuminations will be on too won’t they? The swimming place looks good but we haven’t done that. And mine love the arcades if weather is bad. Have never seen anyone having sex in the street! Have a great time Smile
