Anyone else listening to Theresa May on the Today programme? She’s really not fit is she?

She’s talking absolute nonsense and just keeps repeating it.

But what can she say? No one likes her plan, Boris is poised to knife her in the back, what ever she says either her party or the EU will say no.
And she hasn't got the clout or guts to go for a second referendum or people's vote.

Neshoma · 02/10/2018 08:40

Better than Corbyn anyday.

pombal · 02/10/2018 08:41

She’s in a no win position and we have no viable alternative.

She can't win. But she was an idiot. Twice. So it's self inflicted.

Firstly, in standing for the leadership after Cameron went because it was the biggest poison chalice there has been in politics for a very long time (both because of how relatively close the referendum result was and the continued divisions within the party).

Secondly, in calling the snap general election which reduced a perfectly acceptable and working majority to push things through to a non-existent one requiring her to be a part-puppet to the DUP.

PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 08:43

Better than Corbyn isn’t a ringing endorsement. My cat would be better than Corbyn.

VickieCherry · 02/10/2018 08:44

We have a viable alternative. She could call off the insanity and stop pretending it's possible to do a deal that benefits the UK.

MargaretDribble · 02/10/2018 08:45

So who would you prefer? JR Mogg seems popular. Or flying Boris?

PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 08:55

I’d like her to step up and stop the nonsense and act in th best interests of the country.

How though? Everything she does someone knocks. The eu says no, or political opponents say no. There is no answer.

SpoonBlender · 02/10/2018 09:02

When May got the job the choices were Gove, Boris, May and possibly Osbourne. The boys all knew how poisonous the situation was and ungracefully hid behind their newspapers while May unwittingly (because she doesn't really seem particularly bright) went and grasped the chalice.

I'm just glad we didn't get Gove/Boris/Osbourn at the time. May's been rubbish but they'd have been far worse.

Believeitornot · 02/10/2018 09:02

She needs to weight up who is more important. The interests of the country or her party

Unfortunately she’s put party politics first - which I can understand as they’d remove her from office if they could.

However Brexit is something which could damage the UK’s economy long term. She needs to stop the infighting - and should have bloody well done months ago. Instead she’s letting the likes of mogg run the show. Screw them!

ShatnersWig · 02/10/2018 09:22

Believe She's doing what Cameron did, putting party first. He thought the referendum would sort out the divisions in the party. NO other reason at all. The idea that they were scared of UKIP was nonsense because the likelihood of UKIP gaining even more than a couple of seats in a general election was nil. To have any influence UKIP would have needed to suddenly have MPS in a third of constituencies. That was NEVER going to happen.

If she tried to pull us out of Brexit, there would be a leadership challenge and we'll be in an even bigger mess. Cameron has been the architect of the biggest shitstorm in living memory and just got to walk away. The likes of Rees-Mogg spouting forth pisses me off because they've all been protecting their wealth and continue to do so.

Much as I did not agree with her, we actually need a Thatcher. Someone ridiculously bullish and forthright. We'd never have had a referendum under her but even if we had had, she'd have played a very different game with the EU and either we'd have got a deal or we'd have had no deal but got out a lot sooner and without this total shambles so that at the very least we all knew where we were rather than no one having a clue STILL and we'll still have no idea for a couple of years.

serenmoon · 02/10/2018 09:24

She’s so weak, unable to answer fairly basic qurations. It’s really quite worrying how she doesn’t seem to have a clue.

ShatnersWig · 02/10/2018 09:37

And, ironically, the divisions in the Tory party are now even deeper than they were.

And we have a totally ineffective opposition.

And NO ONE is happy. Remainers aren't happy full stop, Leavers aren't happy because they think it's either a fudge, or not hard enough, or it's taking too long, or or or.

Ifailed · 02/10/2018 09:41

But she was an idiot. Twice Make that three times, she invoked article 50 without any sort of plan to implement it. There was no deadline.

BoogleMcGroogle · 02/10/2018 09:54

God, I wish we'd got George Osbourne now. And that's a sentence I never, ever thought would be useful outside a 'field the most irritating person you can think of' contest.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/10/2018 10:00

Yeah, she didn't have to invoke Article 40 then. Dumb move. No plan = fecked.

She seems to have got away with it though.

TerfAndSerf · 02/10/2018 10:04

I know the world of politics is toxic, but how much of the abuse is down to the problems and how much is because she's a woman.

Anyone in her position would be in similar trouble.

Cameron, after poisoning the chalice ran, rather than drink from it.

cheesefield · 02/10/2018 10:06

@PeridotCricket I'd be willing to listen to your cat at this point.

KathDayKnight50 · 02/10/2018 10:06

Bombardier25966 · 02/10/2018 10:11

Make that three times, she invoked article 50 without any sort of plan to implement it. There was no deadline.

This is a really good point. Aside from the fact that the referendum should never have been called in the way it was, having a plan before Art 50 was called would have minimised the current shitstorm we're in.

How anyone can defend the current government is beyond me. The damage they've done to democracy is going to take a generation to repair. The damage they've done to society and vulnerable people even longer. You can't bring back all the people that have died as a direct result of austerity.

PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 10:16

@cheesefield my cat is an arsey little fucker who probably thought Boris Johnson jumping through a wheat field was funny. But anything that might disrupt the free flow of Dreamies into the country...he'll be marching with the best of them.

OP posts:
PeridotCricket · 02/10/2018 10:18

They are putting a plan in place to stop the free movement of people, that's all of us going on holiday and all of Europe coming here. It's going to make it difficult for workers to come here and our workers to go there. It's madness.

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2018 10:23

She makes the wrong decision all the time. Called an ill-fated election, triggered A50, got into bed with the DUP.

The Tories have been arguing over europe for 25 years and are still doing it today. The whole country is held to ransom in the process.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/10/2018 10:25

And today she announces the end of free movement like its a massive opportunity.
