I bet my bottom dollar the “skills” will be jobs where people with money can already move around eg lawyers, accountants etc where we don’t have a shortage.

On CountryFile they were demonstrating machinery and technology that will harvest the vegetables. Perhaps our future lies in developing the technology and not hands-on-the-ground pickers. Think out the box.

It'll be next week that will be interesting, because she'll be free to get involved in a little give and take, before decision time in November (although I'm sure that deadline will get moved). So while she's preventing unskilled workers from coming over, she is also continuing with austerity and using Universal Credit to ensure that the working poor in the UK can't pay their rent while working in the lower paid jobs...

How is this meant to work? We do actually need people to carry out minimum wage jobs. It's great that they're developing tech to harvest food, but a machine isn't going to bathe and feed your grandmother.
