Anyone else listening to Theresa May on the Today programme? She’s really not fit is she?

She’s talking absolute nonsense and just keeps repeating it.

And today she announces the end of free movement like its a massive opportunity.

You can still invest in the Cayman Islands what more do you want? Grin

At least all the non travelling Brits will now be available for employment picking our cabbages and potatoes.

Difficult to see how anything can be worse than a government appointing a minister for food shortages in peace time.

missyB1 · 02/10/2018 11:07

The Conservatives have caused all of this shit and are systematically destroying the UK . Cameron should be behind bars for what he did (bloody treason as far as I'm concerned). May Is a disgrace and has no sense of duty at all. She knows full well Brexit is going to fuck us all but she hasn't got the spine to stop it. She has made mistake after mistake and keeps marching forward to disaster like a lemming.

Dear God somebody help us! I actually think it might take a revolution, we need to overthrow the Government before spring!

Neshoma · 02/10/2018 11:24

It's going to make it difficult for workers to come here

No it won't. It will ensure we get people with the necessary skills and not thousands of immigrants who possess no skills.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2018 11:28

You mean like healthcare, were there are thousands of vacancies? 96% drop in EU citizens applying for nursing posts in UK since referendum. Drop in UK students applying for nursing since the Tories cut bursaries. Not well thought out this is it?

Believeitornot · 02/10/2018 11:35

What skills? Who determines these?

I bet my bottom dollar the “skills” will be jobs where people with money can already move around eg lawyers, accountants etc where we don’t have a shortage.

Those on lower skilled jobs will not be “welcome” even though that’s where the vacancies lie.

Then we’ll get the line about how “British” people can take those jobs. Right, how’s that going with things like nurses having to get into debt to train, teachers hating it etc etc.

It’s a nonsense. This immigration policy is bollocks.

The real problem we face is that the Tories have kept going with austerity and despite this debt is still rising!!! They’ve fucked this country and Brexit acts as a nice distraction.

ShatnersWig · 02/10/2018 11:44

Yes, I can see lots of British people lining up to earn minimum wage fruit picking and cleaning. Just like there always has been.

Oh, wait a minute...

Neshoma · 02/10/2018 11:49

I can see lots of British people lining up to earn minimum wage fruit picking and cleaning.

On CountryFile they were demonstrating machinery and technology that will harvest the vegetables. Perhaps our future lies in developing the technology and not hands-on-the-ground pickers. Think out the box.

ShatnersWig · 02/10/2018 11:54

@Neshoma You may be right. But that's down the road. In the meantime? And what do we do when such technology reduces jobs for even those who live here to begin with?

Eatmycheese · 02/10/2018 11:57

Hell in a handcart springs to mind.

I would like to see Cameron jailed. What I think of him cannot be written here.
May is just a dead (wo)man walking
Like the country at this point

Leafyhouse · 02/10/2018 12:14

The thing is, she has to be incredibly bland at the moment, to keep the conference faithful happy. So it's the standard line of 'Chequers Chequers Chequers'. It'll be next week that will be interesting, because she'll be free to get involved in a little give and take, before decision time in November (although I'm sure that deadline will get moved). She may be bland, but she's no fool - and let's not forget there are now Remainers in all the 4 top jobs (PM / Home Sec / Chancellor / Foreign Sec). Putting a case forward now is pointless - it just gives a platform to Boris et al., which is what they're desperate for. So yea, no wonder she's giving them vanilla, it's exactly the right tactic. For now.

ShatnersWig · 02/10/2018 12:30

@Neshoma I'm interested in this statement of yours:

It will ensure we get people with the necessary skills and not thousands of immigrants who possess no skills

Genuine question I'd like your answer to: Do you therefore feel we have had uncontrolled immigration for the last however many years?

user1499173618 · 02/10/2018 12:47

Neshoma - why would intelligent skilled workers now want to migrate to the extreme right wing environment that the U.K. will be post-Brexit? The U.K. used to be an attractively diverse and liberal country which is why skilled people wanted to migrate there. No longer...

Erm, have you seen the state of politics around Europe at the moment? Ridiculous to say the UK is extremely right wing. Have you been non white and tried to travel around Europe before? It was hostile then, I dread to think what it’s like now.

Hissy · 02/10/2018 13:27

the interview was shambolic

Comes to something when you actually look forward to hearing what Laura Kuenssberg has to say instead of the bilge TM was pumping out.

Was there some kind of Conference Challenge into how many times she could slip 'We're bringing an end to free movement once and for all"

It's like the record got stuck. Hope Mishal gave her a kick to get the robot back on track

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2018 13:37

Erm, have you seen the state of politics around Europe at the moment?

I'm not aware of other nations deploying "go home" vans, talking about "citizens of nowhere" and promoting a hostile environment.

user1499173618 · 02/10/2018 14:18

I live in an EU country and am extremely relieved that I do. I work with many players gearing up for a Brexit exodus.

MissionItsPossible · 02/10/2018 21:30

@user1499173618 Great for you 👍🏽 Noticed you acknowledged my question but didn’t answer it. I suppose it is good for you, compared to the uk, as a white person.

MissionItsPossible · 02/10/2018 21:35

@GhostofFrankGrimes I'm not not aware of anywhere in the UK needing so much police presence over a real threatening far right march that near on caused riots or did throughout Europe in the last year, nor aware of a black teenage citizen being pushed onto a live train track by three adult white supremacists in this country like has been reported within the EU the last few days. The UK on the whole is not extreme right wing. And those that claim it is, especially when trying to downplay what’s going on throughout Europe are just embarrassing themselves

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/10/2018 22:03

Missionitspossible

I'm not down playing anything down but ignoring the direction in which the UK is moving is naive.

When May got in there was that even worse woman, she did save us from her. I dont even know how she got in the running.

WhoWants2Know · 03/10/2018 04:15

So while she's preventing unskilled workers from coming over, she is also continuing with austerity and using Universal Credit to ensure that the working poor in the UK can't pay their rent while working in the lower paid jobs...

How is this meant to work? We do actually need people to carry out minimum wage jobs. It's great that they're developing tech to harvest food, but a machine isn't going to bathe and feed your grandmother.

user1499173618 · 03/10/2018 13:35

MissionItsImpossible - TBH I don’t really understand your question. “Have you been non white...” doesn’t make any sense to m.
