Are you microwaveless?

Our current microwave is ready for the tip. I’m very tempted to not buy a new one. Does anyone else cope just fine without one? I do use it everyday for warming up milk for my children but could easily switch to a pan. The only food I cook in it is the rare occasions I use a microwave pouch of rice. I don’t want to spend £60+ on a machine just to warm up milk!

I do have one but i only use it to defrost things or cook jacket potatoes(which i could do in the oven )i wouldnt miss it tbh .

Oooh... I might chuck mine. I have it. I can't remember when I last used it but I just felt like it's something you're meant to have. I might get rid of it, or put it in a cupboard and see if I've missed it in 6 months time.

Chucked ours years ago, there are odd occasions it would come in handy (Christmas puds for one) but not often enough to make it worth losing so much counter space the rest of the time. DH laments losing microwave scrambled eggs but by and large we don’t miss it.

I'm going to get rid of mine and see if I miss it I think!

Livingthedream12345 · 01/10/2018 21:50

I use mine loads. Quick to heat up DD's milk. Start off jacket spuds and home made chips. Reheated my batch cook chilli portion tonight...always make porridge in the microwave too. Bacon now gets cooked in the microwave...loads less mess.

I use ours for rice, leftovers, soup, frozen meals, steaming veg, and various other odds and ends. I’d never pay big money for one, but I’d not be without one either.

theboxofdelights · 01/10/2018 22:15

I never use mine, a very small basic one without digital controls. DH uses it for reheating leftovers for lunch (without covering them so the inside is always splattered with food).

DramaAlpaca · 01/10/2018 22:15

I wouldn't be without mine. It's only a basic one but it's used every day. There are five of us in the house coming & going at different times so it's essential for reheating dinners as well as defrosting, cooking frozen vegetables - it gets so much use I'd really miss it if I didn't have it.

Pissedoffdotcom · 01/10/2018 22:20

I'd actually cry right now if my microwave died. Then again i have a 14 week old DS who uses the self sterilising bottles as well as shamelessly relying on it for anything i can heat up in it food wise.

Post baby zombie mode i might be tempted to get rid...

dangermouseisace · 01/10/2018 22:23

I think about getting rid of it but then I discovered I can make syrup/jam sponge in it, and microwave sweet potatoes (so much nicer than in the oven, where they get too sickly sweet). I also make porridge in it as well as do hot drinks. And heat up milk before adding to the roux when making white sauce (otherwise 2 pans). Cleaning porridge pots is a pain in the arse...with the microwave you just have the bowl. And defrost batch cooked food to a stage when I can put it in the pan without it burning.

marblesandconkers · 01/10/2018 23:02

Haven't had one in years and don't even think about it. The only time I've missed it is when I once bought a ready meal with no oven instructions Grin Other than that, one less thing to keep clean and do not miss it.

HildaZelda · 01/10/2018 23:05

DH uses it every morning for porridge. I don't use it that often but would use it for jacket potatoes, to heat up beans, heating up sauces, things like that.

Aliceinwanderland · 01/10/2018 23:06

We ditched ours. The only time I miss it is when I want to warm up one of those lavender warming things.
