Hi all

Found out I’m pregnant 🤰🏽, so happy, couple of weeks ago I was in hospital with Quincy I was prescribed two different antibiotics and quite a big dose for a week, also when I went in with Quincy I was put on a drip with antibiotics and steroid to shrink it to drain it, I have to ring midwives Wednesday morning and they will hopefully reassure me but I’m so worried please help anyone

What is Quincy?

clairethewitch70 · 01/10/2018 14:56

Extreme tonsillitis which blocks throat. OP only a trained person can help you. Maybe try ringing a pharmacist and ask them if the meds prescribed are safe in pregnancy?

I had quinsy when I was 28 weeks pregnant and had antibiotics and steroids. Obviously I can't be sure that I was on the same ones you've had, but it might reassure you to know that they were able to give me the meds and at no point was I told that the medication I had could be a risk to the pregnancy. A pharmacist or midwife will be able to help you properly though, because mine may have been different, plus I was at a different stage of pregnancy.

Does Quincy have another name? Google's entire front page is about the show...

I have no knowledge to impart, OP but my fingers are crossed for you Thanks

She means quinsy, it’s a form of tonsillitis.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/10/2018 20:26

It's a peritonsillar abscess. Best treatment is to let an ENT doctor stick a needle in it and drain the pus. Instant relief!

ParanoidGynodroid · 01/10/2018 20:34

Bezalelle that's exactly what sprang to mind for me too! Grin Grin

Sorry OP, I hope you get some better help from other posters!

A severe infection isn't great in the early stages of pregnancy but lots of people have something like this experience and get through it ok. Was your temp very high? How pregnant are you?

Didnt have quinsy but i will try to reassure you. I was seriously ill during pretty much my whole pregnancy. Had a major emergency pelvic surgery under general anesthetic in early pregnancy. Constant antibiotics and many times strong IV antibs and steriods for infections, morphine and various other medications during the whole pregnancy. DC was born totally fine all be it a little premature but that was likely to be totally unrelated to any of my health problems.
Hopefully when you speak to midwife they can reassure you
Congratulations !
