Boys. Why how would you pronounce it?

chattingtoaspanishgirl · 01/10/2018 10:15

The e was making me suspicious... I would've instinctively gone with 'Boys'

I'm extra cautious because I'm calling about a job, very rare to see something where you can't apply online and have to telephone Blush

OP - “Can I speak to Mrs Boyes Pls?”
Ans - ‘Yes I’ll put you through’ OR ‘oh you mean B-o-y-e-s?’Smile
OP - Sorry, yes please.
Ans - That’s okay, we get it the time.Smile

Fair enough. Good luck with the job application.

DGRossetti · 01/10/2018 11:56

Speaking for myself, I'd pronounce it "boys" to rhyme with "toys".

However, that's no guarantee that the owner pronounces it that way Grin

chattingtoaspanishgirl · 01/10/2018 12:00

Apparently it was pronounced 'Boz' HmmGrin

The secretary who put me through seemed rather miffed that I didn't get it.

Ahh well, fingers crossed

I have an unusual name. The spelling/pronunciation do make people pause for thought.

I have never, ever been offended by anyone getting it wrong the first time they encounter the name.

Don’t worry about it - good luck with the job.

Pinkprincess1978 · 01/10/2018 13:15

Eh? There is a well know chain store (could be northern only mind) spelled like that and I've only ever heard it pronounced boys never boz 😂

sirmione16 · 01/10/2018 13:16

My boss has an old Irish name, people basically refuse to try and say it Grin it's amusing. If I'm in a bad mood, I'll make out I don't know who they're asking for until they have to try. Some clever people explain they simply don't know and it's spelt .... But others get themselves into a right fumble Grin

We have a shop in town called Boyes, we pronounce it Boyzez. We're common.

mellongoose · 01/10/2018 13:31

I know people with that name. It is pronounced 'Boys'.

Watto1 · 01/10/2018 13:32

There is a chain of shops in Yorkshire called Boyes. I have heard it pronounced Boys, Boyzes and even Bo-yez. But I would say Boys.
