Passport advice

Hi

I need to apply for renewing my passport and a first passport for my child

My old passport is in my maiden name e.g. Jones

I since got married and haven't been abroad. I had a child. I'm now getting divorced but my name I'm going by is my married name as it's my child's eg smith on banking and bills

I don't think I have any other ID or bills left in my maiden name but as I'm not sure when my divorce will come through (no idea where it's at actually!)

Could I potentially just renew under my maiden name? And still have a jones passport? Whereas my child would have a smith one?

Seems weird sending a marriage certificate when I'm mid divorce

So only my passport would be under maiden name currently

Or is it just much easier to have it under smith like my child when travelling? I'm a single mum so I would often just be taking my child and me away so is having two different names a hassle when traveling?

I need to get it done fast whatever as we want to go away in November

Our names aren't obviously smith or jones Smile

Also I definitely need one for France from U.K. don't I? Sorry just had a brain fart and wondered. I think I didn't when I went to Ireland a while ago actually need a passport?

Yes you need one for France.

I would get it in your married name - easier to travel with your child. Do it now before the divorce goes through.

What name do you actually want to be known as? If you are going to be returning to your birth name, then new your passport in that name.

It can be a bit f a PITA to have two names (not least as you have to have travel bookings in your passport name, and if that doesn't have at least one bank card, it's quite possible some computers will say 'no' and it can be a hassle tracking down the right person to over-ride that.

Going to France pre-Brexit is unlikely to spring major complications, though, whichever name you pick

I think I will probably just stay with married name for ease with child tbh

Hate having association with ex husband but my child already knows themselves as that name and I can't really change theirs
