I thought it was just me! I’ve had this problem loads of times. I’ve also had the problem a PP had where I could only get it to spray under one arm. It’s hugely annoying, especially as Mitchum is so expensive.

MaHeidsGouping · 30/09/2018 20:46

Binned mine too, DH couldn't get it to spray either so I assumed it was faulty.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 30/09/2018 20:48

Also binned mine, I used to just twist the bottom of the cap but not anymore.

Deodorant shouldn’t be this hard to use!

Randomnumbers7483 · 30/09/2018 20:50

I have sussed this - use a pair of scissors to prise off the lid - cut all of it off apart from the top plastic bit that actually sprays and then you can use it. Obviously not ideal, but saves throwing it away. I worked this out when was the only can I had and needed to use it. Then had happened to me several times since so used same method. It is absolutely ridiculous that you have to do this and they need to sort the design out!!

JLbaby · 30/09/2018 20:50

Glad it wasn’t just me! I got 2 of these a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t use either. I managed to untwist the cap but then couldn’t press it hard enough for anything to come out - thought I’d just bought faulty ones but clearly not!

OhTinky · 30/09/2018 20:54

I just bought the new mitchum gel - and I can’t get it to work! So that’s £4.50 gone in the bin as i’d lost the receipt ☹️ Gone back to Sure. I’ve also had dodgy Mitchum roll-ons recently too - what is going on with their packaging/products?!

Celticlassie · 30/09/2018 21:06

I was thinking I had a dodgy one but it looks like it's a packaging problem. Weirdly, I find it's more likely to work if I do the left hand side before the right (which isn't the way I'd naturally go!) Doesn't always work though.

DragonMamma · 30/09/2018 22:23

I’ve resorted to propping it up on the chest of drawers and using my strong hand to squirt it.

Stopped buying it.

Maybe somebody should tweet this thread to Mitchum...

BirdieInTheHand · 30/09/2018 22:30

Ooh yes someone tweet this to Mitchum.

I've been struggling to use the spray having switched from the roll on after it started giving me a rash after years of using it without issue. I assume they changed the formula.

Whistle73 · 30/09/2018 22:52

I shall be tweeting, facebooking and emailing tomorrow. By the power of Mumsnet - let's do this!!!

Cardiganandcuppa · 30/09/2018 23:07

I thought it was just me!
Spray RIDICULOUSLY hard to depress.
Ive gone back to roll ons. Although accidentally bought the yellow instead of the pink and it smells a bit like toilet cleaner Confused

LarkDescending · 30/09/2018 23:54

So glad you asked! I usually use their roll-on without any difficulty, but the spray was on special offer so I got two. Can’t get any spray out of either. Relieved to hear it isn’t just me.

wopbamboo · 01/10/2018 00:13

I have had this too!.

PickAChew · 01/10/2018 00:18

You twizzle and swear a bit then twizzle Nd swear some more. Eventually, you get a mouth full and know you've finally managed it.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 01/10/2018 00:21

I had this too, I just thought I was a weakling. Also, I had to give up on the cream (which I actually prefer) because it kept getting stuck or breaking off, and at £5 I was getting increasingly irate.

Whistle73 · 01/10/2018 13:52

Right I've emailed them, I don't want to Tweet because I don't want my mumsnet name to be outed to my followers. I'll let you know If I get a response.

Embarrassed89 · 01/10/2018 15:55

Glad I’m not the only one, and thanks Whistle73 for contacting them! So bloody annoyed as I don’t have the receipt to return it so that’s money down the drain, not to mention my I was trying so hard to unlock the thing my hand skin is chapped Angry (sounds so trivial writing this ha but genuinely frustrated)

OP posts:
Whistle73 · 05/10/2018 10:28

They didn't get back to me Angry

Catmatrat · 05/10/2018 15:52

Yay

Embarrassing question.... but how do I unlock mitchum’s spray deodorant
cujo · 05/10/2018 21:52

Yep I’ve had this problem with the new packaging too. It’s horrendous and the collar does slip. Means I don’t use the lock function in my soap bag anymore. So no point having it.

Also to my horror the unscented is now scented. It’s terrible.

So disappointed with Mitchum nowadays, as I’ve bought this for maybe 15 odd years

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/10/2018 22:00

Mitchum seem to be changing a lot of things all at once, I wonder if they're in financial difficulty as quality has gone down and the scents aren't as nice. I'm also finding it really difficult to get hold of Mitchum roll-on. My usual supermarket has only had gel for about a month now. I did buy the gel to try it but it smelled really strongly of solvent and I couldn't was it off in the shower the next morning so I threw it away.

I would just change but I'm allergic to almost all of the main brands, however if the roll-ons don't come back into stock I'll have to start trialling other brands.

MrFide · 27/04/2019 12:37

I like randomnumbers solution above but this might help more fully and explain how to do randomnumbers fix if you can't figure how to separate the nozzle from the collar

The spray top has two components, the combined nozzle and push button assembly, and the collar. The nozzle turns around inside the collar and might be stiff. You have to grip the collar tight to stop it turning with the nozzle head.

On the collar are two faint marks, O and 1

On the nozzle are two arrows and the word “lock”. One arrow points clockwise, the other is just an arrowhead opposite the nozzle and points away from it.

Ignore the clockwise arrow and “lock”

The arrow opposite the nozzle has to be aligned with the 1 on the collar. You may have to force the nozzle head around if it is worn. Just try the direction which is easier. The plastic stops inside that stop turning too far are very weak and probably broken any way, so once you’ve got it working just leave it in the unlocked position.

When the marks are exactly aligned you should be able to push the the nozzle head down and work the spray.

Only push down with one finger or thumb from the side where the arrowhead points, the opposite side where the nozzle is won’t go down, so the nozzle head goes down at a kind of angle.

The spray is inconsistent.

The other problem is that the nozzle may be encrusted and blocked. You can try holding the whole top assembly under a hot tap, maybe vinegar? soap? and poking inside the nozzle jet with a pin to unblock.

You may have to prise off the whole top to clean the assembly out properly. This is what I had to do to get it all to work.

SneakyGremlins · 27/04/2019 12:40

Blimey, been a while since this thread was posted - OP, are you still trying to get into it?

MrFide · 27/04/2019 12:43

Still selling the same junk at our local Morrisons, so hope this is useful, maybe people just vote with their feet.
