Any magistrates around?

I am thinking of applying to become a magistrate and would appreciate hearing peoples experiences, good and bad.

Not me but my dad loved it
Maybe because he didn’t hav a very good education
Scarlet fever cut it short at 13
So to do something like that maybe gave him the kudos he felt he lacked
He did it for 10 years then he had to retire at 70
