AAAAAAA - weevils

Yich. Was about to bake with dd when I realised the flour was full of weevils. I've thrown out all open packages in the pantry and washed down the shelves.

Do I have to check the new sealed/ unopened packs? Like sealed pasta / sealed bags of quinoa?

if they are unopened they should be ok but here's a tip i got off mumsnet
keep your flour in the freezer , no more weevils . it really works

You can eat weevils....that is what my mum taught me! I got a lovely compliment from my friend once, asking me what my secret was for the lovely cake I had made. I was honest! The flour had weevils in it! I now freeze every new bag of flour for a day, then it shouldn't hatch weevils. I have found though that once they are in a house, they reappear despite cleaning. Freezing is the way to go!

Put bay leave in open packs of flour. Keeps weevils away.

Great. Everyone sounds quite chilled about it. I've decided to tackle it with an appropriate amount of concern but not too much - I've got form about over-reacting to pest-based events.

Obviously I have an Amazon basket full of airtight tubs and jars about to be clicked!

I found these a few weeks ago. Ordered some airtight tubs for each type of flour asap, and washed down the shelves. Yeuch!

I had a flour beetle infestation the other month.

Hundreds of tiny red beetle things and their larvae in my dry food cupboard and the fuckers got into my cutlery draw which makes my skin crawl even thinking about it now.

The culprit was a bag of flour but I had to check nearly everything as they were crawling everywhere.

They seemed to just appear overnight. Absolutely vile. I have never had them before so must have purchased something they were in....Shock

Got I feel itchy just thinking about it.

Anyway, I emptied the cupboards and chucked anything they got into / could have got into, hoovered the cupboard, sprayed anti bac, dried if off, put stuff back in -
Although nearly all the pasta, cereal, etc is in containers now!
