If so, do you feel like it's becoming increasingly civet again? I've lived round here for 15 years so have known it before it became totally gentrified. But it feels like in the last year it's become worse again.

There seems to be so much open drug taking / dealing. And I live in supposedly one of the nicer areas.

Police cuts.

MsOliphant · 28/09/2018 23:16

Police cuts. I live in Ladbroke Grove and it’s similar. In fact, they’re sending firemen/women out in fire engines to what would have previously been police matters as there aren’t enough cars or police staff.

londonfieldz · 28/09/2018 23:19

I thought as much. It's had such a drastic effect in terms of the increase in anti- social behaviour in that case.

How depressing. I wonder if it'll improve again?

Yep! I was in shoreditch with the 10 year old this afto and a guy walking towards us was gurning and vomiting. The kid had to swerve to avoid getting vomited on. Grim.

Silver lining I’m hoping it was a great real life anti drugs advert.

imip · 28/09/2018 23:22

Yes, I agree... I see more open drug dealing, a lot more gang presence and a lot more violence.

londonfieldz · 28/09/2018 23:28

I work in Bethnal Green and consistently have to walk past drug drops. Tbf this has been going on for years, but definitely feels they've increased in numbers. The gulf between snazzy coffee shops and the rest is starting to feel even more stark. It's all a bit grim really

The area of London I live in is getting dodgier again. Blatant drug dealing at all times of day and a lot of users around.
Cuts to services and police I think. Seems a lot more shoplifting too which goes hand in hand with this.
Won't start on the stabbings/shootings.

londonfieldz · 29/09/2018 08:21

I was thinking that it might just be me, feeling increasingly sensitive to these things. Bloody cuts.

Vinorosso is it the same postcode as a well-known boyband!

AngeloMysterioso · 29/09/2018 15:37

OhWotIsItThisTime I live near boybandstow and I’ve noticed a lot more violence/local teenage stabbings etc. One of the reasons DH and I want to move. It’s a shame as it looked like the town at least was on the up. They’ve opened a Pret and everything!

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/09/2018 15:45

I've lived in E1 for over 20 years (i.e. since well before the hipsters moved in) and the drug culture is more blatant now than I ever seen it. We have some drug dealers who set up camp in their car outside our building pretty much every evening but the police do nothing about it (despite it being reported many many times) as I think they are just too over-stretched. The dealers are on cctv but they don't care. We were told that there are only two Police Officers covering our area (which includes Spitalfields).

It's definitely a problem in E1/E2:

Jakethekid · 29/09/2018 15:51

Badboystow made me laugh. I live by there and I agree it is getting so open around here. No one even cares that they are seen. Police come and search them and nothing ever happens. They laugh in the police officers faces. Always riding around on bikes with their little bags.

My child is a toddler but I'd hate it if he was older seeing all this as just a normal thing. It makes me question what the norm actually is.

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/09/2018 16:39

How can you tell if people are drug dealers, if they're just people on a bike or in a car? Is it that others come up to them and they hand something over in exchange for money brazenly?

I live nearish and this thread is making me think I'm completely oblivious and in a world of my own when going about my business walking along.

OhWotIsItThisTime · 29/09/2018 16:40

I loved living in boybandstow (fab name, Angelo ) but got fed up with the blatant dealing. I knew where they hung out, hid the stash and what they looked like. Locals reported again and again, but nothing happened.

It’s a shame, as it was a brilliant family area.

SecondTimeCharm · 29/09/2018 16:45

i’ve lived in dalston and now closer to your username OP for the past 7/8 years and I’ve never known it so bad. open drug taking and dealing on the streets in daytime.

it was a major factor in our decision to move out of London, never mind that the house prices remain insane for what you’re getting round here

londonfieldz · 29/09/2018 18:12

Interesting @SecondTimeCharm where are you going?

OP posts:
Vinorosso74 · 29/09/2018 18:44

Haha OhWot no I'm not around that part of town. Where I am is a mixed area but I've always felt safe. Just feel I need to be on guard a little more now.

foldingtable · 29/09/2018 18:50

I actually think it was safer for “normal” people 20 odd years ago before it got trendy. Drug dealers would nod at me or ignore me, pimps the same. I think the fast incoming of money showed off the haves and have nots and the gulf between them, that and just too many people in a small area. All those flats that have gone up without the infrastructure to support them.

londonfieldz · 29/09/2018 19:11

@foldingtable agreed
