Appropriate for a 12 year olds birthday?

I'm struggling with what to buy my niece for her 12th birthday and can't really ask her as I don't really speak to her mum, just drop presents off etc.
She likes to do her nails so I was thinking of buying her good gel nail polishes and a LED nail dryer. Is this appropriate for a 12 year old or too old? She is a mature and doesn't play with toys or anything. I always buy her books, art supplies etc for Christmas x

My only worry would be that alot of schools do not allow nail polish and gel polish doesn't just wipe away like normal polish does. Would also worry about her damaging her nails if she isn't doing it properly.

I tried to do my own gel nails, was fine going on but a real pain to get off. Really worried I was ruining my nails. I don’t think they’d be suitable assuming she’d only be allowed them at weekends and would need to remove before school again.

Perhaps some nice/good quality “normal” nail varnishes?
