Black soot/dust marks on cream carpet- how to clean?

I've got a couple of black soot/dust marks on my brand fucking new cream coloured carpet.

I've vacuumed it but it's not come off.

What will get it off and not stain/damage my carpet? I think the carpet is a wool mix one.

I think bicarb of soda sprinkled over, leave a little while and hoover off. Don’t think it will be as it was though. I speak from bitter experience when I say washing it won’t help!

Oh fuck, so even with Vanish or 1001, it might not come off?!

Did the bicarbonate and vacuum thing and it’s made no difference

Would VAnish work?

Wd40 works OP but it does leave a light film on the carpet and it’s hard to shift afterwards.

Bumping this… 🤦🏽‍♀️ Does anyone have any ideas?
