Ds's see me drink. From time to time.

Once drunk, I'm ashamed to say.

But I'm only ever pleasant and quite cuddly if I ever get even s little bit tipsy.

On mn, There seems to be more sanctimonious and judgemental teetotal'ers and non drinkers, than anywhere else.

I hold regular parties. Many of my friends drink a lot. A couple don't drink at all. I couldn't care less. I really don't care if someone drinks a lot, or never. How does this affect me?

It's the MN judgemental bit, that I find hard to comprehend.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 28/09/2018 13:05

No never. He's seen me have a glass of wine, maybe 2, now and again on a meal out. DH hardly drinks so not seen him either. We don't drink at home, only ever when out for a special occasion.

Pregnancy seemed to do something strange to my previously "could drink a rugby team under the table" party body and I can now only have 2-3 glasses wine max and I have to stop as I feel rotten, then and the next day. So he's very unlikely to ever see me properly drunk as I can't handle it Grin He's nearly a teenager.

Whatsforu · 28/09/2018 13:07

Just because people are teetotal or choose not to drink in front of the kids doesn't mean they are judgemental of those who do.

formerbabe · 28/09/2018 13:08

No...I'm virtually tee total.

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/09/2018 13:10

No.

Leafyhouse · 28/09/2018 13:13

Yes, our DS's (9 and 11) have certainly seen us drunk. Not vomiting or paralytic, but merry. And they're going to see us drunk tonight as well - some parents from the school are coming round for a catchup! Grin Wine

Meet0nTheIedge · 28/09/2018 13:18

No, I hardly drink, maybe one or two at a party or night out, virtually never at home. DH drinks more often but rarely has more than a couple. Never seen my parents drunk either, they are very moderate drinkers.

JacquesHammer · 28/09/2018 13:24

No. I’ve never been drunk.

She has seen me have a glass of wine with dinner, or a champagne at Christmas.

I’m mid-30s and I’ve never seen my parents drunk either.

BitchQueen90 · 28/09/2018 13:26

I drink a fair bit and get drunk about once a month. I just choose not get drunk when my 5 year old is there because I don't think it's nice for him to see. I stick to 2 drinks maximum when he's there.

notacooldad · 28/09/2018 13:28

These days I get drunk with them!
Not often though as I can't stand having hangovers and losing part of the following day but if it is an event that we have all gone to.
Neither of us ( DP and I) have never been fall down, love you everyone type pissed. Just merry and a bit silly.

amusedbush · 28/09/2018 13:29

I've only seen my dad drunk once when I was in my late teens and he was very silly, giggling and just went to bed. He had been out with a friend, which happened rarely.

I've seen my mum falling down drunk a few times. One time she called me a cunt, another she admitted that she never wanted kids and had us to stop my dad from leaving her. Cool. Thanks.

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/09/2018 13:36

Yes , well merry as opposed to being blind drunk! I have been tipsy with my daughter and son! I have been clubbing with both! We had a great time!

Upsy1981 · 28/09/2018 13:59

Oh yes. Absolutely. When I say drunk, I do not get to the stage of falling over and shouting but I am very merry, louder than usual and love a dance. I do not usually suffer with hangovers unless I have been very silly and mixed my drinks so DD doesn't see it as something that negatively impacts her life. DH rarely drinks now as it has begun to disagree with him (heartburn etc). We do most of our socialising in the house so she's around. I very very very rarely drink on weeknights so she can see I am in control and it is not something which dominates my life.

I struggle to comprehend that everyone's answer on MN is usually Gin but every one is apparently tee total.

ChoudeBruxelles · 28/09/2018 14:01

Yes. Occasionally really quite drunk but always one of use sober enough to look after him.

notacooldad · 28/09/2018 14:05

Ha ha! So true!!

I have no shame in saying that my choice of posion is a bottle of Black Sheep. I have to admit I was quite suprised to find DS1 choice of drink is gin and elderflower tonic and DS2 has a vodka, lime and soda. When I was 20 ish like them a lad where I came from would have never ordered that. It's nice to see people having what they fancy and not being judged for it.

Deadringer · 28/09/2018 14:05

Yes but she was 19 and it was a one off. I hardly drink at all.

PhilomenaButterfly · 28/09/2018 14:07

I'm not teetotal but I can't afford more than one bottle of cider at the weekend, and I can just about finish a pint when we're out before DD 11 says, "I want to go hooooome!

CoffeeShortbread · 28/09/2018 14:08

Yes. Children are young adults.

ScottChegg · 28/09/2018 14:14

No, never. Eldest is late 20s and it's something he has commented on before.

evilharpy · 28/09/2018 14:18

Whatsforu quite right - I'm not judgemental at all as regards people drinking around kids. I don't drink much these days mainly for calorie-watching reasons, but when I do it tends to be in the evening after my daughter is in bed. She's too little for me to be able to keep up with her if I was too full of wine :D But if other people can do it then fair play to them.

My parents are elderly now but even when they used to go out for a drink when I was 17 or 18 and still lived at home, I have never ever seen either of them drunk. My mum would nurse the same vodka and lemonade or glass of wine all evening. Now that is something I can't do.

SendYouUpInFlames · 28/09/2018 14:31

No. Never. They wont see me drunk until old enough to realise. Even then I'd only be merry.

They're 3 and 1.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 28/09/2018 14:37

Depends on your definition of drunk, doesn't it?

Having had too much drink to legally drive a car? Yes, absolutely.
Giggling a bit too much, kitchen dancing and being a bit silly with my friends in a safe environment with kids running around? Several times.
Absolutely blotto and unable to stand upright? Never.

Kittykat93 · 28/09/2018 14:37

Love how like 90% of people on here are apparently teetotal and yet on other threads are always having a gin and tonic, glass of wine etc. Hmm

No I don't get drunk around my son, but I don't think it damages children to occasionally see their parent a bit tipsy, as long as obviously this doesn't make them aggressive or anything obviously.

Whoever said having a drink was the same as snorting coke Grin good one.

Kittykat93 · 28/09/2018 14:38

I said obviously too many times in my last post Blush

JacquesHammer · 28/09/2018 14:39

Is it exactly the same posters? Or is it, in fact, different posters because MN isn’t a hive mind?
