Viral infection - Is my baby safe?

I might sound ridiculous and paranoid but I went to a friend's house today with my newborn (a month old) and she's just informed me they have a viral infection.. should I be worried? The children didn't touch/sneeze/cough or anything over me or the baby!?

Depends on what virus really.

LG123 · 27/09/2018 18:20

@numberseven any particular viruses I should worry about?

A virus usually means they’ve got a cold or something! I really wouldn’t worry.

Pandamodium · 27/09/2018 18:38

Surely anything serious they would have told you beforehand not afterwards Confused it's a bit shitty of them even if it is only a cold one.

Hope your baby avoids it, whatever it is.

LG123 · 27/09/2018 18:44

@SoyDora I know I shouldn't but I can't help it I'm new at this mummy thing!

@Pandamodium I don't think they knew this morning..

My baby boy has a medical issue, you can't tell by looking at him now he's off oxygen but a cold could end up with him ventilated.

Surely if you had anyone over with such a young baby you would warn the parents and let them decide whether to take the risk or not?

I really don't know if that is normal etiquette these days, I never used to be anxious about illness till DS was was Ill and now I have no idea if I just sound crazy.

Pandamodium · 27/09/2018 18:50

Sorry I misread I thought you meant they already had the virus before your visit and not disclosed it.

Sorry @LG123

Ellapaella · 27/09/2018 18:50

I'm sure you'll be fine. Have you had a flu vaccine? That's probably worth having before the winter.
Chicken pox is the only virus I can think of that would potentially be of a concern but only if you haven't already had it.

LG123 · 27/09/2018 19:01

@Pandamodium No worries, i jist hope my little one doesn't catch it. She's replied saying the eldest has the runs and the baby is off his milk and being sick. Poor little mites :(

@Ellapaella I had the flu jab when k was pregnant.

Sorry I totally misread your op and thought you meant you were pregnant! Blush
Apologies. I'm sure your little one will be fine but I think your friend should have given you a heads up before you went round really!

LG123 · 27/09/2018 19:21

@Ellapaella I don't think she knew this morning..

@Ellapaella I read it wrong too.

OP if it makes you feel better I got every bug going round last year when DS was new born and extra vulnerable from sickness through to pneumonia bloody twice. DS didn't catch a single one, no idea if it was luck or what. The only thing I was really strict on was stringent hand washing.

If he could avoid them with his dodgy lungs im sure your little one has a decent chance. I really hope they do.
