Kids waterproof trousers with adjustable waist, do they exist?

Really struggling to find any for my 6 yr old. Tried muddy puddles and Trespass but none have adjustable waist.

Dd is on the short side so am thinking adjustable waist trousers will last her a while as the length will be ok. Also makes it easier to find Ines that fit her length wise!

Should have said we have got ski trousers but want something thinner that can go over leggings in Autumn.

Ds x2 had elastic waist...Sports direct? Mothercare?

dameofdilemma · 27/09/2018 15:03

I've seen some with elasticated waists but really want adjustable waist (like the ski trousers we have). I'll then be able to invest in something that fits dd properly rather than having to get trousers that are too long in the leg and have to be rolled up.

It might be they don't exist!

Have you tried in Go Outdoors/Mountain wearhouse?

Think they are called 'overtrousers'.

MagicMix · 27/09/2018 15:11

We have waterproof trousers with suspenders, so the waist doesn't matter so much. They do have an adjustable waist as well. Ours are from Didriksons.

I had a quick look at their website and found some adjustable waist waterproof trousers without suspenders, too. Brilliant brand, I highly recommend them for all kids' outerwear.

Have you tried Mountain Warehouse?

dameofdilemma · 27/09/2018 20:55

Thanks all. Have checked MW and Go Outdoors but none there. They all have elasticated waist.
One pair had a toggle but I don't think dd is going to manage tying/untying that on her own (laces are still a challenge...).

Magic - Didrikson have some that look ideal (not the toggle ones) but I can't find a stockist and can't seem to get the website to work very well....

Should have also said I want ones dd can pack in a bag and then put on quickly over her leggings if she needs to, so not suspenders...

I had this trouble, ended up buying the all in one jumpsuit style waterproofs.

InDubiousBattle · 27/09/2018 21:00

Around this time last year I got some fab ones from Lidl. They are ones with suspenders that can be adjusted and a waist that can be tightened with poppers. I think I paid about £8 each for them and they have lasted all year (we walk everywhere! )staying properly waterproof.

Muddlingalongalone · 27/09/2018 21:02

Lidl but you have to keep you eye out for when they are on sale.

Onceicaughtafish · 27/09/2018 22:04

The lidl ones came out last week. Agree great quality, they may still have some left if your lucky.

Whynotnowbaby · 27/09/2018 22:08

I live in Iceland and the ones with suspenders are worn by every schoolchild here! The brands they get them from are 66North, Cintamani, Zoon or Didriksons if you want to see if there are UK stockists of any of them.

Whynotnowbaby · 27/09/2018 22:09

Didn’t see your next post but those brands might still be useful if Lidl don’t come through!

Togz do good dungaree style ones...can then adjust length and width www.togz.co.uk/comfort-waist-overtrousers---new-style-1-p.asp

sunnyday1976 · 27/09/2018 22:16

Could you buy a regular pair and put a couple of stitches (or safety pins)on either side and then let out again when needed?

BikeRunSki · 27/09/2018 22:20

these?

Cachailleacha · 27/09/2018 22:21

Not sure how an adjustable waist will make them less long in the leg if she is small for her age? I would just buy the right size for her height, they should all be elasticated. Rolling them once at the waist can help if they are slightly too long.

Gardenpicnic · 27/09/2018 22:25

@dameofdilemma have just sent you a pm Smile

BikeRunSki · 27/09/2018 22:33

H&M do very good Didrikson’s alike waterproofs online, but all have suspenders and stirrup loops. in case you are interestrd

dameofdilemma · 28/09/2018 09:57

I think I might need to get dd to try a few of the elasticated waist ones on to see how long the legs are and whether they can be rolled up easily.
Naively I thought I'd just be able to get a thinner version of her ski trousers but seems not!

If the eladticated waist are too big, put a fold in the waist and secure it with a tiny bulldog clip.

Why not just buy a smaller size that fits? Sorry, I'm not following you with wanting an adjustable waist but then talking about rolling up the legs.

dameofdilemma · 28/09/2018 13:53

Cacha - dd is 6.5. I think the age 5-6 length will fit her but the waist might be a bit snug when worn over normal trousers or will only fit her for a month or two.
But the age 6-7 (or 7-8, a lot of brands seem to jump from 5-6 to 7-8) will be way too long in the leg.

We've got around this problem with jeans and ski trousers by buying the age 5-6 and then adjusting the waist so its on the wider setting which seems to have fit her fine.

Ok, I think many posters, including myself, were thinking the trousers were too big on the waist. I needed adjustable ones when my child was younger as they would just fall down otherwise.

Have you gone into an outdoors shop and had her try any on? They are quite baggy as they are made to fit over other trousers, they may be fine, especially if she is only wearing leggings under them. The difference in size between a 6 and an 8 is only about an inch on the waist, but about 2.5 inches in leg length.
