Handyman rates?

I've had a quote from a handyman to come round and put up two (small) floating shelves, a full length mirror and hang my fridge door the other way.

He's quoted £80, which seems a lot to me, but I'm in London zone 3, so maybe I just need to suck it up? What do people think?

Yes I had a similar issue recently trying to get someone to do a small job. When I challenged the high quote with one of them, he said it required him as much effort to bring all this tools and travel here for a small job than it would for a bigger one so he charges relatively more for small jobs... (I'm also London, zone 4)

I eventually found someone who quoted a bit less through a local Facebook group.

I'd love to see you get a handyman anywhere for £10 an hour, let alone in London. It wouldn't even be minimum wage once you've deducted tax, insurances, equipment.

Thanks all! I've asked if he could do the work plus hang a blind for £60. I wouldn't have thought it's more than 2.5 hours work?

Doesn't sound expensive to me. You are lucky to get anyone to quote at all. We can't round here (Wiltshire).
