Pen experts this way. I need help

Budget of £50-70 for a ballpoint that’s suitable as a 21st gift. Recipient wants a pen and is a bit of a brand follower so I’d like to get something that’s at least recognisable as being ok.

Looks like I’m in Cross and Waterman territory. Any others to consider?

I don’t know how cool they are, but I got a Schaefer White Spot rollerball for my 18th and that matching roller ball for my 21st. 25 years later, I am still using them.

Ooh I had a Schaefer cartridge pen at school that I loved. I’d forgotten them completely

Sorry, my previous post is wrong! I got the fountain pen for my 18th, and rollerball for my 21st. DM has a Shaefer she got for her 21st in the 1960s, which she still uses.

Lamy are pretty good too, in my opinion.

anonymousbird · 27/09/2018 11:54

A nice Lamy would probably be considered "cool" however, the other brands mentioned are all very good ones. I loved my pen I got for my 21st, and was gutted when I lost it sometime at least a decade later....

Great present.

Slightly over budget but Tiffany do a ballpoint pen for £80 here

dizzydaisies · 27/09/2018 11:56

Another vote for Lamy, I've had mine for years and love it!

Jins · 27/09/2018 11:59

I’m tempted by the Lamy posted up thread myself.

Should have said it’s a male recipient as well

Shaffer all the way here!!! Still using my 7th birthday present pen, dd is using one I got when I was about 14, and lovely dh has found me vintage duplicates too!!!

The ones with the v shaped bibs are best I think...like this design...

All the above brands are great. You might want to consider cross as well.

Have a look on www.cultpens.co.uk but I warn you now: if you are in way a pen or stationery addict, it's a dangerous place......!

Jins · 27/09/2018 12:27

I do have a pen and stationery tendency but I’ve been keeping it well controlled for years. I’m definitely in dangerous territory here

Did you know there's a separate stationery topic? You'll get loads of good advice there

GemmaB78 · 27/09/2018 12:46

Sorry, it's www.cultpens.com

Jins · 27/09/2018 12:47

No I didn’t but I do now. Grin

I think I know where we are heading so thanks to all for the suggestions
