Can anyone living in or around Ipswich help me?

I live about 2 hours away from Ipswich - I've just booked concert tickets to come to Ipswich in August next year and everything is booked up that weekend. So can anyone help me with places that would be good to stay that are a short train ride outside of Ipswich please?

TIA

Stay in Colchester and drive in. Im assuming you're off to see ed Sheeran?

Sweetheart · 27/09/2018 11:27

Thanks but we wont want to drive as we'd like to make an evening of it and have a couple of drinks.

Might be nice to be by the seaside too depending on availability and prices.

Woodbridge is lovely and has some nice b&bs - it’s 15 mins by train from Ippo but i don’t know when the last train is.

Or, stay in town at the Salthouse, or there’s a Novotel. or are they full too? DO NOT stay at the Station Hotel!

Ipswich to Colchester is really easy on the trains and cheap enough by taxi

ProfYaffle · 27/09/2018 11:43

Have a look at the trains. The Norwich to London line runs quite late and could get you into Colchester, Stowmarket, Diss etc. There are other lines which go out to the coast but they stop running earlier.

Sweetheart · 27/09/2018 11:43

Thanks - salthouse and Novotel all booked.....seems like everything centra Ipswich is booked.

Will check out Woodbridge train times :-D

Stowmarket is 20 mins by train

Sweetheart · 27/09/2018 11:45

ok so Woodbridge is out - look like the last train is at 10pm and I think that will be too early

Lots of hotels in Norwich, it’s only about 30-40 mins on the train - stops directly at Ipswich. There’s travelodges and premier inns etc etc. Plus lots of independent ones.

You could stay in Diss but then you’d have quite a walk from the train station to the hotels and the taxis are very hit and miss!

ProfYaffle · 27/09/2018 11:47

Have a look at Colchester, Stowmarket and Diss. That line runs later.

ProfYaffle · 27/09/2018 11:48

Diss station to the town centre is about a 20 min walk. You won't find any taxis.

Sweetheart · 27/09/2018 11:54

Which train station in Colchester runs straight to Ipswich please - there seems to be 3 stations looking at google maps

Colchester North

Might be looking for a B&B in Stowmarket - it's the next stop north on the main line to London; Stowmarket - > Ipswich is only 11 minutes on the train, or 17 if it stops at the one stop in between.

Have you tried The Station Hotel Ipswich, it's directly across from the station and is quite lovely. (Or it was up to at least March this year)
It has dates in August available but I don't know yours.
