Very important (and serious) poll: order of construction of a bowl of cereal

Please place all cereal consumption bias aside.

There is a very heated debate raging in my house at the moment. It revolves around the order the following (placed here in alphabetical order) should go into a bowl:

Cereal (in this case it's biscuits of wheat)
Milk
Topping (in this case honey).

I don't eat cereal myself, but do have an opinion on this highbrow discussion. Though I shall keep my opinion to myself this first post, so not to sway the answers.

Cereal, milk, Demerara sugar (if it’s weetabix, cornflakes or shreddies. Not on coco pops or Frosties).

Unless you’re DS2 in which case it’s weetabix, shreddies, coco pops and a Penguin biscuit, then milk. He’s an animal.

Fevertree · 27/09/2018 08:07

I do weetabix, honey, milk but if the topping is different I might change my mind. Then in micro for 30 secs!

Tiredmum100 · 27/09/2018 08:08

Cereal, milk, sugar/fruit/topping in that order.

Cereal then milk. I don't do toppings, but if I did they'd be last.

Any other way and the person is a monster.

KlutzyDraconequus · 27/09/2018 08:10

Cereal in bowl
Milk poured on top
Sugar or other topping added

Any other way is madness so it is.

Sirzy · 27/09/2018 08:10

For weetabix only I do milk first. I warm the milk in the microwave (lights blue touch paper and steps away from thread)

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/09/2018 08:11

Cereal first - then milk - then topping

Unless you are having wheat biscuits with hot milk and heating the milk in the bowl in the microwave. Then it is milk first - ding - then biscuits - then topping. If you heat the milk in a jug then the cereal - milk - topping order remains correct.

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/09/2018 08:12

Ha Sirzy great minds Grin

DunesOfSand · 27/09/2018 08:15

Cereal. Milk. Eat.

WhyDontYouListen · 27/09/2018 08:15

Cereal first, (so if you pour in too much, you can return the excess to the packet without it being all milky). Then milk, then topping (by it's very name, it must be 'on top').

SpikyCactus · 27/09/2018 08:22

Depends what the topping is. If it’s sugar it goes on last because you don’t want to wash it off. Nuts and berries would go in with the cereal and get the milk poured on last.

SnowOnTheSeine · 27/09/2018 08:25

I do milk then a bit of cereal. Eat whilst crunchy. Then add more cereal. Eat whilst crunchy. And so on until all the milk is gone.

Can't stand soggy cereal.

DadDadDad · 27/09/2018 10:03

Surely you have to put the cereal in first so you can calibrate how much milk to pour - it can be surprisingly little in order to cover the cereal.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2018 10:08

Cereal (s)
Milk
No sugar

Or:
Porridge
Milk
Fruit added before cooking (either frozen berries or raisins)
No toppings

Ohyesiam · 27/09/2018 10:14

Cereal
Milk
No topping

Or
Porridge
Fruit

Ioki · 27/09/2018 10:30

Depends what it is. For most things:

  • cereal
  • (minuscule splash of) cold milk
  • no topping
(eat while cold)

Weetabix:

  • Weetabix (x2)
  • splash of cold milk (enough to know whether Weetabix will be crunchy or soggy. None of this ‘warmed’ or ‘with hot water’ bullshit Envy < not envy!)
  • sprinkle of cinnamon on top
  • sprinkle of Demerara sugar
(Smush up Weetabix into a crunchy Weetabix sort of paste in bowl. Eat while milk is ice cold.)
Nothisispatrick · 27/09/2018 10:35

Cereal, topping, milk. I don’t really like it soggy so less time sitting in milk while I do toppings is better.

scaryteacher · 27/09/2018 10:46

Cornflakes, sugar, then milk or cream if I have any.

Porridge made in the microwave with oats, milk and cinnamon all in together. When it's cooled, then maple syrup normally, perhaps with blueberries, or if I'm feeling decadent, maple syrup, or demerera, and non UHT cream (either double or clotted, and only if the British store have some in).

Omgineedanamechange · 27/09/2018 10:49

In the case you presented op, it would be cereal, milk, heat in microwave, then honey.

Meet0nTheIedge · 27/09/2018 10:53

Cereal, milk. No toppings unless it's porridge.

One exception. Chopped banana, cornflakes, milk. Banana goes in first so it doesn't bounce the cornflakes out as you chop it in straight from the skin.

PhilomenaButterfly · 27/09/2018 10:55

Cereal
Milk
Topping

sittingonacornflake · 27/09/2018 10:56

Well obviously the topping has to come last or it wouldn't be the topping. It would be the bottoming or middle-Ing.

Mrspotter12 · 27/09/2018 11:00

Cereal, milk then sugar. Hubby does cereal, sugar milk - totally pointless, milk washes sugar into bowl 😡

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 27/09/2018 11:09

If someone is thinking that it’s milk - cereal - toppings, Then we have the bigger problem that someone left the gate to Crazytown open.

Its Cereal-milk-toppings.

MaxPepsi · 27/09/2018 11:19

Cereal then milk for my crunchy nuts.

Cereal, sugar then milk for my rice crispies. (Which I only eat in hotels now)

Porridge then milk for my oatso simple. I may add additional honey after on a weekend but not during the week!
