Do you think people would be killed if we ‘the Purge’ here?

Terrifying program and seems to be set today but really far away from who we are as humans.

I (sadly) think some people would die. That there’s always an aggressive element who would go out on the streets to hurt people.

Instantly making a list in my head.

I also think that Trump should watch out.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/09/2018 18:27

There would be a very looooong Trump queue

Yes.

But I do think even more so lots more people would be victims of sexual attacks with no entitlement to prosecution

It's all crime isn't it not just murder?

MunchMunch · 26/09/2018 18:31

Definitely!
It wouldn't stop any crime happening the rest of the time either as some people like the thrill off the chase or the thought of being caught.
When I watched the first film I was liking his safety features and his protection for his family but how would you know that your wife/husband/son/daughter etc wasn't going to turn on you?! So all your meticulous planning would be for nothing.

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/09/2018 18:31

I think a lot of people would be killed. I often think there's only the threat of punishment that holds some people back from very serious aggression. I think this as I look at some of the classes at school, generally "I hope I never meet X in a dark alley when he's a few years older". I suspect I'd be on a few lists because I have a reputation as being quite strict as a teacher.

WhollyFather · 26/09/2018 18:34

The queue to attack Trump would be outnumbered by supporters and bodyguards there to protect him, guaranteed.

Just imagine a purge MN style; cheeky fucker parking, old ladies tutting your children, men standing near playgrounds, AND YOU CAN'T EVEN CALL 101 TO LOG IT!!!

If DH misses the bloody toilet again he'll be first on my list 😡.

Love it. The possibilities are endless. MILs being beaten to death with penguin bollards, SILs boiled alive in Instant Pots for stealing a baby name, pitched battles between both sides of the Brexit debate, and some poor OW buggered to death with a penis beaker at centre parks.

Notacluewhatthisis · 26/09/2018 18:48

Honestly if someone tried to kill my family I would give a good fight and try and kill them first.

That's the issue. Even people who didn't want to participate could end up killing or commiting crime.

Isn't this what Hallowe'en is like in some areas anyway?

LemonysSnicket · 26/09/2018 19:16

Yes. Many. I would lock myself in my house with a bat and would mostly expect looting and rape.

Blackinck · 06/06/2019 06:21

Government officials are safe during the purge

chatnicknameyousuggested · 06/06/2019 06:28

I'm in a small state in Eastern Europe, with a civil war in recent memory. Absolutely it would happen here, and it would be terrible. A lot of grudges would be settled.

What's the good of that, then?

SisterMaryLoquacious · 06/06/2019 07:56

It depends on how you set up the repercussions afterwards. For example, in the moment in the UK murderers can’t inherit from their victims. If they could inherit from people they’d killed in the Purge then you might get quite a few. (What can I say - I’m an economist).

Adversecamber22 · 06/06/2019 08:39

Is this a spin off from the films?

Of course people would die, grudges would be settled and while that’s awful there would be killings purely for pleasure which seems even worse somehow.

MsAwesomeDragon over the years I have met a handful of people that absolutely freak me out, an underlying menace. It’s a small number thankfully. I felt dreadful feeling it about a child, it was one of DS friends, now as an older teenager he has recently exploited someone horribly in their friendship group. The most dreadful feeling I ever had about someone turned out he had been in prison many times and had tried to chop someone’s limbs off. Met him through my voluntary work.

Mari50 · 06/06/2019 08:59

Of course it would- all you need to do is take a look at AIBU to know there’s an underbelly of seething resentment and anger brewing in the UK

Needallthesleep · 06/06/2019 09:41

What areas?! I’ve only ever seen groups of young children with their parents asking for sweets!
